If you would lose that deer and find it later you would only have the antlers. So a nice anterless deer that uou would try to be harvested and lost to the hot weather would be less important?
I hear a lot of people talk about taking marginal shots during bad weather and taking long shots or shots they know they are not capable of but still do. They will only do this on a trophy animal. They would never try that shot on a deer they don’t have the opportunity to show off.
Now to everyone. Is that OK?
Jeff SchomakerPosts: 406September 19, 2016 at 1:23 pm #1640387I think what he’s getting at is that he doesn’t wanna have to rush and get the meat cooled off for a slick head. But if a trophy came by it would be well worth it. I do the same thing during the first couple weeks of season when it’s 75 degrees. Doe tags stay in the house so I won’t get tempted.
September 19, 2016 at 1:47 pm #1640397That is how I took it too. It’s good to be back in the stand, but it would have to be a big boy to get me to shoot until it cools down.
I never take a shot that is out of my comfort zone whether it’s a 170″ deer or a yearling.
September 28, 2016 at 9:09 pm #1642201sorry RiverRuns, getting back at this thread late. I’ve been duck hunting instead lately…the other guys read my intentions spot on. I just wanted to get out with no intentions of harvesting any deer. But if Mr Slobbering Drop-tine presented himself for a lethal shot, I’d have bought all the ICE at the local stores coolers to to protect it from wasting. I’ve only been archery hunting going on 9 seasons, and I know someday it may happen, but I have yet to lose a deer I’ve hit. The longest shot I’ve taken was 32 yards. No deer is worth a bad, unethical shot. (least not in my book) I’d be sick if I lost any deer, buck or doe…Looking forward to cooler days and colder nights….

Be safe out there everybody….I re-read your original post and I didn’t understand it correct. No need for explanation. Good luck to you on the hunt.
ShawnSeptember 29, 2016 at 5:45 am #1642214I think I’m ready for deer season
Will Roseberg what brand small game heads are you shooting? How do they fly? I keep looking at them but most everyone I know that shoots them says anything past 15-20 yards they are all over the place.
