My daughter has been asking for a rock tumbler for a few years. Finally got one for her birthday next week. Where can a guy get his hands on a few. Its to cold to head up to Duluth and look for some now.

A buddy in my neighborhood is a rock hound, I’m sure he could spare a few. Give me a call/text and I can connect you.

I am not a expert but – other rocks and such can look nice after tumbling. I tumbled what I thought was a rock of some type that had banding. It looked really nice after tumbling but it was actually identified as petrified wood.

For supplies I have used a place in the past called The Rock Shed. They also sell a variety of rocks to tumble.

The Boys have buckets full of them, I’m sure they’d be excited sending some to your daughter peace

    I’ll ask them tonight

    Where are you located?

I will say this.. Duluth is not that good of an area to look. Agates were formed in lake superior but most were moved out and deposited south of Duluth. People have found LSA all they through Iowa. Best starting point is Moose Lake and south of there. Even the mpls/st paul metro area is a much better choice that the Duluth area.

Hopefully its not the yellow barrel National Geographic tumbler…that plastic yellow barrel breaks down after some use…We ended up getting a metal barrel model off amazon, works great! Just make sure to tumble in an area that you can’t hear during the night hours, it gets loud…

I think a lot of people look in gravel pits for them around southern Minnesota – but a lot of that is private land and can be dangerous. Check out stream beds, etc on public land. Maybe not agates but tons of quartz and other really cool rocks and pebbles that will keep a rockhoud kid busy for hours!
