The Boys got some good ones this morning before the snow started flying waytogo

The monster one is right at 2 pounds, our biggest ever!!

It’s 100% an agate but I can’t see how good the banding may or may not be since it’s whole.

The other three are under a pound, but fractured enough to see bands.

The were really excited and have both tumblers filled with smaller ones they found today, sounds like a freight train in the shop right now lol

Very nice finds! applause 2 pounders are rare.

Big agates left in the raw state are usually more valuable then polished. Maybe they’d want to see what they could get for them first…. Either way, congrats to them. peace

I love agates and personally enjoy them unpolished. Just washed with some mineral oil to keep them wet looking.

    ^^^

They’re polishing a bunch of smaller ones they found today, the ones above are staying unpolished (but they’re already bugging me to cut the monster in half) lol

The one part I can get a light to shine in looks like it could be just crystallized quartz, but it’s only the one small area and I can only see maybe 1/2″ into it.

She may or may not be absolutely stunning inside. My tile saw is too small, might use a gas-axe diamond blade at work someday.

I know a lot of people think it’s blasphemy whacking a big one in half, but from 2′ away it looks like a sex rock (just another f-ing rock), it would be cool to see what might be inside mrgreen

Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of cutting. And I have friends that would crack them open with hammers. Literally might have turned $500+ gems into gravel. I’ve always thought of the larger ones that didn’t reveal much like a pull tab or a scratch off lottery ticket. Before you cut it, it could be anything! And someone with money might pay for the chance that it’s awesome. But once it’s cut, it might just be quartz and another rock for along the house.
