Advantages of I-Pilot Link vs normal i-Pilot?

is the only real advantage of the Link vs normal i-Pilot the follow depth contour feature, a crap load of additional saved spotlock & recorded track locations and the fancy remote? I’ve had i-Pilot for awhile and like it, I just installed a Humminbird that can utilize Link and curious if it’s worth the $600?

It really depends on how you fish. If you utilize the feature or feel you can go for it. If not save the money. I have the link like it but don’t use the contour feature all that much found it to be not always useful but it is nice on certain occasions. I use the spot lock and cruise control the most and that is on the I pilot anyway.

I use the follow the contour a lot to target depths.
The link also has the ability to run the TM from the Humminbird.
You can choose a spot on the lake map and tell the TM to go there from the Humminbird.
There are a lot of features on the link people are unaware of,
    let alone attempt to use.

not sure but for $600 I would say NO. IF you were buying all over again and the price was +$2-300 compared to just the I-pilot then I would go for it without a doubt.

This is why I wish when I bought a new boat I went with the link/humminbird.

I have the link and have had it for a full season now. I love it! It’s really nice having the finder telling the TM wher to go.

I can’t justify the additional $ to upgrade. I’ve found the Lakemaster maps satisfactory at best with their detail and accuracy. It’s happened where I see awesome looking structure on the map, motor over to it and nothing appears many times. Plus that remote is way too big/bulky. If the motorguide had a digital readout like my I pilot I’d buy one of those before the terrova.

Once you pull the trigger (and you eventually will) you will see the difference. Regular I-pilot changes the way you fish….I-pilot link goes above and beyond that. Many people do not take the time to go through and figure out all the features. You need to dedicate time to using each feature to get the full effect of it.

but isn’t the only added feature the iPilot Link has over normal iPilot is the follow contour feature?

    nope…..

lol, care to expand a little? I’m not counting the additional Link Spotlock/recorded path favorites, who in their right mind is going to have/use 2,500 spot lock locations?

The ability to select a spotlock using a waypoint on the fish finder that you have created using side imaging off the side of the boat is great. Selecting the spot lock on the humminbird is much more accurate than using the spot lock button on the remote. I also like the backtrack feature. I can automatically back track up to 2 miles using the bird. I understand that the lakemaster maps are not perfect and the follow the controur mod will not always be perfect. This is what I do. I run along the weeds using side imaging and create a few way points along the way. Then I use the nearest contour on lake master to follow along the weedline….works awesome to stay close…I loved the regular I-pilot when I had it but the options that link opens up is worth the extra money if you can swing it….If the money puts financial hardship on you or your family I would defniely skip it…no fish would be worth that. If you get I-pilot now…I will guaantee that you will get link the future. If you already have a link compatatble humminbird, I would just do it now! Those are just a couple examples of how I use link…if you or anyone else are near western wi or the cites I would be happy to teach you how to use it…my boat or yours..pm me

They now offer a micro-remote that is similar in size to the co-pilot remote for $99.00

The micro-remote is an add-on so it is another 99 on top of already having link.

Not sure how many I even have.
I have recorded most of my productive spot locks for the last 3 years.
It’s a lot more than the 6 on the I-Pilot on each lake.
I visit numerous lakes each year.
I just motor near where my spot should be
    go to the Humminbird
    select the spot
    push Go To
the TM goes there and drops anchor
while I am baiting my hook(s)
Fish On (just like last year).

To me it’s worth it. I love having it shown on the depthfinder what is happening, and being able to tell the trolling motor to go to specific points on the map. Either to spot locks, or just to certain points to start a drift. I’ve used it quite a bit just to reset a walleye drift. For example, I’ll have 5 or 6 waypoints in a line at the start of my drift. When I finish the drift, I’ll tell the trolling motor to troll back to 1 of those waypoints to start at a spot just a little off of where I started my drift last time.

Just one example. TONS of uses for iPilot Link as others have mentioned.
