The Advanced Ice Fishing Adventure on North Lake was a success, with some pike and bass caught, and happy youth.
The team is ready to host it again in 2020.
Our Family Fun Ice Fishing event yesterday morning brought in more than 45 people of all ages, from parents with infants to a group of young adults who wanted to try their hand at ice-angling.
Lower than last year’s attendance, but not bad considering the sub-zero morning temperatures!
While the fish weren’t very active, the Hastings Lions Club made the cold morning more enjoying with tasty hotdogs and hot chocolate.
We did catch a perch and a panfish.
Kudos to Jake at Ace Hardware in Hastings for the amazing donation of bait.
A few of the fun stories from Saturday include:
*The 5 millennial ladies who hadn’t ice fished before and found the program by looking online for something fun and free to do. They came from all over, including Illinois, Madison and Minneapolis. They got to try out the ice augur, fished and had a lot of fun.
*A family with young kids that have attended every one of the Lake Rebecca Ice Fishing programs.
*Grandpa visiting from Roseau, Minnesota had a great time with his son and grandson.
*Little Oscar, who spent all morning popping in and out of the various ice houses, and could only be coaxed off the lake by Grandpa with a promise of tasty hot chocolate at the Lions tent.
*Another family that “got hooked” last year and bought their son a rod, then attended this year’s advanced class and bought dad a rod. They stopped by for a bit on Saturday before adventuring on their own to North Lake for the afternoon.
Our last adventure of the season will be February 9.
It’s free.
It’s fun.
It’s for the family.
