Heading up to Adrians road on Thursday, and then Friday and Saturday out of Arnesens. Anyone make it up this weekend?

    Hey BigWerm,

I am headed up tomorrow for the rest of the week, on Adrian’s road as well. I have not seen any reports from the weekend either. Likely a slow fishing weekend with the Super Bowl, but I expected some reports.

My brother was up this weekend out of Zippel Bay. he said the action was slow but consistent with limits of eaters all 3 days. They did the shallow/deep shack combo and said fishing was about the same in both areas. No big fish this trip, but plenty of steady action for the under 20″ fish.

I fished Friday and Saturday with Friday being in 27ft of water was a better numbers day. Saturday, 20ft, was super slow and when fish did come in most were under 12 inches we had a hard time keeping 6 fish. I think we caught 15 eyes under 8 inches Saturday. The beer we had was more plentiful than the fish were but I think part of that was Sportsman’s house location.

It was a tough weekend for us out of Adrians. Fri, Sat and Sun.
Went out to the end of the road Friday. Very slow and the saug./eyes we got were small. Decent numbers of tulli.

Sat afternoon we moved into 26′ and it was slow but a bit better. I set a portable in 23′ for late afternoon/evening but was also slow.

Sunday morning we set the portable in 30′ and did our best of the trip which was still not good. Kept 7 sauger 15-17″ tossed about the same in dinks.

We had 4 guys, 1 wheel house and a portable that moved. In total we fished 8 different spots by mid day moving.

Nothing super to report for our trip but if I were going out again I would not start out super far.

Bring an extension. Was able to just get through with a SM out deep but when we moved shallower we had to add the Ext.

Thanks Mark, for the report, even though it is not a stellar forecast, ha!

What presentation worked best? Full minnow? Minnow head? Fatheads? Shiners? Big presentation or small? Jigging or bobber?

Any hints you want to share to the world?

I have fished LOW for a long time now, so I have my go to colors, lures and techniques, and I will try them all if fishing is slow. But any head start hint always helps.

The fish we did catch were caught on something gold or pink. Saturday we had to downsize to small presentations, I used a 1/12th oz tumbler spoon while another used a small pink panfish jig that they would hammer. Rattle didn’t seem to matter for us as I caught more fish without than with. Both full minnows and minnow heads seemed to work but just the head outproduced the full minnow.

BW – When you get your road pass at Adrian’s ask Brian for a calendar. I didn’t make it up there this year and I want to keep my calendar (girls) up to date if you know what I mean. waytogo woot

A little bit of everything worked, rattles wheels, bobbers and jigging. Typical bright colors. No live shiners and didn’t get frozen either. Used smaller rainbows. Jigging bright spoons produced better. Sorry for the vague details but, if there was a super secret I sure didn’t figure it out.

Made it out on Adrian’s road Thursday starting in 24 fow and ending in 34 fow, with only a few eye’s and tullies coming out of the deeper water. The ice is super thick and definitely needed the extension, learned a good lesson trying to fish by a breaker and nearly getting my auger stuck (hint you can back them out if it’s not running). Rented a cabin and day house through Arnesen’s the rest of the weekend and the fishing was pretty good on Friday, and slower on Saturday. Managed to drop off a mess of Tullie’s at Thielen’s in Little Falls to get brined/smoked and come home with some nice bags of walleye/saugers but definitely not near our 8 person limit. Most of the fish caught needed some convincing and I caught a lot of eye’s WAY off the bottom like 6 feet up after a good chase. Really impressed with Arnesen’s and will be back soon!
