Adjusting to the recent rain…

Anyone been out since the big rain this week? I know some areas got an inch or two and some several inches. Curious if anyone has been out since, how many inches of rain you had, and what is/isn’t working for you? I’m going out Thurs or Fri and can report back then too.

I haven’t. My motor has been idling rough and brought it to my mechanic Friday morning and found water trickling down the front of my faceplate where the spark plugs go in. A new cover gasket and thermostat are the first fix and possibly a new voltage regulator so I won’t be out for a week or so probably.

However, historically I’ve done very well beating the bank on shoreline structure after heavy rains. It opens up a lot of new cover and washes a lot of food into the lake from the shorelines.

Bummer about the motor, seems these things always happen in the middle of the season when you’re used to going on a regular basis. If my buddy backs out this Friday, you can jump in my boat and maybe we can go find some newly flooded timber!

I have to repair some carpet on a bunk board for my trailer. I’ve mostly done temporary patches of it the last year or so but I can’t neglect it anymore. I need to take the time to do a permanent, long term fix with a whole new roll of bunk carpet.

I don’t usually go when its this hot/humid out. I know the fishing can sometimes obviously be quite good, but its just too much for this guy. Plus with the holiday looming, I’m sure it will be a zoo. So I probably won’t be going for at least another week until it cools down some. I’m actually thinking of trying the river next too. I know water levels were quite low before the rain and we needed a good soak so when the water clears up, its game on.

For me it has been very rough getting bass on. I have fished shallow on the banks but most lakes are very muddy and not much luck like many the heat gets me bad so have been doing morning and at night.

Yeah it’s definitely been hot. I don’t know if it’s me but the sun seems way hotter this year than other years. The other day I was out and it was only about 80 degrees but it felt like 95 with the sun beating down on me.

When it get’s this hot out if I go out I’m wearing swim trunks and jump in every hour or so to cool off. And I wear tons of sun screen. It definitely helps along with the neck gators up over the ears and neck. Look like a dork but I’d rather be that than have cancer!

I have had luck off the weed line or points with the drop shot rig. Been using this crazy pink plastic jerk bait—- until I ran out. We need more rain up here. If we get a little current it will get better.

We got 4-6” in this area. Not sure how it has effected the fishing. I should have a better idea after tomorrow evening. After getting some fish on last nights launch. My wife is excited to get out for the first time chasing some bass tomorrow. Heading out early friday morning as well to do some bobber fishing for some SM bass and hopefully some eyes. Did well about this time last year and hope to get on them again on the same spot this year.

I assume you mean on another lake other than Mille Lacs since specifically targeting a walleye and using a bobber w/ live bait is now prohibited…
