I got out for the first time at home last night about 6pm. It was pretty warm so I had shorts and a short sleeve shirt under my not so lite scent suit and the thermacell running to keep the skeeters away. About 10 after 6 a yote pops out of nowhere at 15 yards. By the time I get stood up and bow in hand and full draw he is at 70 yards. I do have a 70 yard pin, but haven’t shot that distance enough to be confident with it. I lip squeaked and he started coming back, but then turned around. I lip squeaked again and he stopped, looked back, then headed on his way.
10 minutes later a does pops out in the same spot I slowly get to my feet, grab the bow and get to full draw. When she clears the pine tree I estimate her at about 40 yards. Steady the pin on her quatered away front shoulder, slide back a bit and release. Didn’t relax my front hand and I pushed the shot just a hair under her and between the front legs
Wow, first 1/2 hour of the first sit is pretty exciting. I decide to stand for a while and be ready, but of course a half hour goes by and nothing, so I hang the bow up and sit back down. 7:05 I see 3 deer running from my right to my left paralleling me at about 100 yards. I pop up and grab my bow. then 2 more on the same path, then two more. 7 deer of which 4 of them were bucks got spooked by something. I stood for a while waiting for a pack of yotes to come through, but nothing.:???:
About 5 minutes before quitting time I start getting my gear packed up and I hear some crunching. I grab the bow and wait quiet and still. A few minutes later 2 coons come moving through the beans. I’d love to get an arrow in at least one of them, but the season isn’t open yet As I finish packing up another coon comes right up to the bottom of my tree, looks up at me, then moves off into the corn.
Pretty active night for the first sit at home. The doe I missed did not seem spooked at all and in fact never did look my direction, so I think she will be back. Would have been nice to draw first blood of the year. In the metro area where I live we have unlimited doe tags, so I can take a few does using bonus tags. By the looks of my beans and my trail cam pics I have plenty of does in the area. Hoping to be back out tonight if the rain will allow. I will sit in the other stand at the other side of the property and let last nights stand rest for a day or two and calm down. Hoping for another active night, that was fun to see all the action.
