I have a bit more time on my hands these days and with the cold I’ve been catching up on movies. Mostly action and military stuff is what I watch. My favorite all time movie is “Gladiator” but there are so many good ones out there. The “Dune” movies have been great, the “Borne” movies are good. One of my other favorites are “Saving Private Ryan” and “BlackHawk Down.”

I’ve been searching for the best action movies I can find and stumbled upon “The Raid – Redemption” which is Indonesian but has the best hand to hand combat scenes I’ve ever seen. The first movie has subtitles but it’s worth a watch. The second movie isn’t as good but if you like action, they are great movies.

What do you guys like? What are your favorite action movies?

I like Gladiator too. Seemingly never gets old. I haven’t seen the most recent Gladiator 2 yet.

Yeah, the Extraction movies are great. I hope they make a third.

I did not like the 2nd one near as much. It was OK but a bit of a letdown.

If you have not watched the Band of brothers series yet, I’d start that next. One of the best Military series ever. We were soldiers and Tears of the sun were also 2 really good war movies.

I am a big action movie fan.
12 Strong, 13 hours, 6 underground (has some pretty good humor in it as well), zero dark thirty, Sicario 1 and 2 and Hunter Killer are all good movies.

I forgot about Nobody. That fight scene on the bus is epic.

A real entertaining flick from the late 90s that gained kind of a cult following is Boondock Saints. It’s independent film that actually has some star power and really intense plot line.

Land of Bad is on Netflix right now. That is a pretty good one as well.

All the obvious ones already posted…

“Edge of Tomorrow” is really good I think

“Prey” is a newer Predator movie set in 1700 with indians that I thought was good, changes it up a lot from the usual formula.

“Sisu” is a kind of insane Finnish(?) movie, in English though, if you want to see a bunch of Nazis get blown up in ridiculous ways

Extremely violent. Looked up to find one of the residents at the group home I work at part time watching a bunch of guys fighting baboons. Was a little worried because they are a little sensitive to domestic violence type scenes. Apparently this does not apply to fighting a rhino with a stick and a perky attitude because they loved the violence of this movie. It kinda started to suck when they brought the old movie into the plot. Prey was another movie mentioned earlier that I thought was pretty good. Probably the best adaptation and maybe the best movie of the franchise.

A non violent action movie that’s pretty good is the one with spider man and Mark Wahlberg looking for treasure. Don’t remember what its called. Has pirate ships and treasure and helicopter fights

If we all can appreciate the greatness of Gladiator then somebody has to throw Braveheart and Apocalypto into this mix

Lots of great movies listed so far! Deadpool and Wolverine quickly became my favorite movie and I definitely recommend it! Other great ones in my top 10 are Blade (especially Blade Trinity) and The Punisher.

The Deadpool movies are great. I’d include the Marvel movies into “action” movies. Most are pretty good.
