? About running a 24v system

When running a 24v system how far apart can the batteries be?

I’d like to put one battery on either side of my boat to better distribute weight, but I’d have to run about a 8-10’ wire between the batteries?

I was thinking I’d be okay if I ran 4ga wire.

    Thoughts?

Marine grade stranded, but unsure of the wire gauge size as you are not giving us all of your equation.

When tying two batteries plus to minus to create a 24v system the wire connecting the two batteries needs to of the same gauge as the load wire gauge.

The wire length between the two batteries needs to be add to your total length calculation when figuring out the gauge required.

Assuming that it is a MinnKota 24v 80lb thrust 56Amp max draw trolling motor and your total length of wire is less than 25 feet, 6 AWG tinned marine grade wire should work.

Also remember, you will need a fuse or breaker coming off both positive battery terminals.

He only needs one, located on the 24+ side. Preferably right on the battery post.

For safety reasons since the wires are longer and running through bulkheads and such you should have a fuse on both. Just incase a wire gets worn down or pinched. If you don’t and something happens you will have a meltdown. If the batteries were right next to each other and running a jumper I would only use one fuse/breaker. If I’m not using a jumper and jumping it in the plug a fuse/breaker should be used on both positives as well.

You might be better balanced by having the weight in the center of the boat with batteries closer together.

Stand up and hold two 5 gallon pails of water.

Are you more stable with the pails at your side or with your arms extended.

Not possible with the layout of the boat

For now I’m running a 65 power drive, but will be looking to upgrade to an 80# motorguide soon
