After seeing the Davante Adams trade!!!! I guess he was serious when he said he wouldn’t play under the franchise tag!

Wonder if they’ll take another QB with that first rounder???

The Packers reportedly offered him the same money but he opted to want out. I don’t think Rodgers contract had anything to do with this. Adams turns 30 this season. It’s probably not the worst situation for the Packers. Julio Jones and Landry are still on the market + the draft picks all for cheaper than Adams.

Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings, and James Jones all pulled the same move to find out the grass isn’t always greener. He’s going to make a ton of money in LA. He’s not going to see many playoff games though in that loaded division.

I think you meant Las Vegas, not LA.

Certainly not the end of the world for the Pack, but to think he’d pick Carr over Rodgers, even with his history with Carr, blows my mind. Makes you wonder if they really did offer him the same amount of money.

Rodgers knew before he signed that Adams wanted to play elsewhere, and wasn’t going to sign but you guys tell it anyway you want.

I said when Rodgers signed that was the best thing besides him leaving that could happen for opposing fans. As of right now he has Lazard, Cobb, Amari Rodgers, and some actual NFL players named Juwann Winfred, Malik Taylor, Chris Blair and Gico Gafford to throw to. Plus losing Zadarius and a few other defensive players. I think they still win the division, but any Super Bowl hopes left with Davante imo.

I saw this storyline as well, I honestly have a hard time believing it…

I was so sure Aaron would leave, Devante would come to Chicago for free and the Bears would be King of the North forever. Oh well another Bears fan’s dream dashed.

would be hilarious if he decided to retire now. Although i gave up a 1st for him last year in fantasy and would prefer to have him for a few more seasons

The Packers reportedly offered Adams MORE than the Raiders did, but he wanted out anyways.

Thanks for your time, best of luck. There’s a strong likelihood Adams may never see another playoff game with that gauntlet of a division. Knowing that now, it’s hard to fault the Packers for not dragging him along on a franchise tag not knowing if he would end up playing or not. They can hopefully sign a veteran FA or package some of these new picks for a proven starter at the position and move on with the extra cap space. This isn’t going to alter the landscape of the NFC North.

I’d predict the Packers are a ~10-11 win team as currently constructed. One full step behind the Rams, Bucs and 49ers in the NFC for SB contenders. Whoever survives the loaded AFC playoffs is going to be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy next February.

Julio Jones is available but he’ll likely be out for half the season or more with his durability issues. Guy is a walking injury at this point

Agreed. I think it puts the purple a little closer to them if we can figure out a way to get out defense out of the basement of the league. That’s still a big if though.

I’m guessing the Pack bring in at least one FA wr but I’m sure they are kicking themselves for not doing this before Robinson and Cooper signed.

    Cole Beasley is available……….

Ian Rapaport did confirm that Adams was always intent on leaving, and the Raiders were the only team he wanted to go to. Also, that the Packers offered more money. I still can’t help but believe they could have resigned him and Rodgers last year or the year prior, and kept them in GB until the end of their careers. Also, they are getting a 1st and 2nd pick in return, TBD if they will use them on another backup QB and RB…. rotflol

4 picks in the first two rounds sound good to me. stud WR, O line, D line and then maybe a D back. it’s not ideal having Adams leave but he is 30 and probably going to decline. good for him tho. he certainly got paid.

Congrats to Adams – he earned a big payday, and the chance to play wherever he prefers. in Carr he’s back to playing with one of his good friends from college. max money, a cool city, and a good friend to enjoy it with? who wouldn’t choose that job offer? going to something you like doesn’t mean you hate what you’re leaving. so good on him, even if it means we lose him from the Pack.

and the Packers will be just fine. Rodgers can take a guy like Smith-Schuster (or whomever) and make him look all-world again. let’s compare notes in February.

When they announced Farves jersey retirement. I asked her if it was the Green one or Purple one. Then ran for the door.

    X2.
Packer fans loved him while he was in GB.

On another note this makes the Vikings defensive backfield better. whistling

I could be #12’s number one receiver and he’d make me an all-pro. I think we will see what Adams is without Rodgers. It’s gonna suck not having him to throw to and I’ll miss watching him make Bears’ fans upset on Sunday, however, it is what it is. Forward is the only direction you can go. I think a 1st and 2nd round picks are fair. We got the best from Davante, best of luck #17!

I’m not sure where you guys are getting this impression from. There’s a long list of free agent TE’s and drafted WR’s that didn’t do much at all with Rodgers, he’s not Tom Brady after all.

Everybody knows a good Wide Out can make a mediocre QB look good too… hopefully the Aaron drama is over for now… and we will see how good of a deal it was soon enough.

Juju to the Chiefs, leaving Landry and Beasley (both slot WR’s) as the only top end WRs out there right now.

Watson goes to Cleveland for 5 years $230M FULLY GUARANTEED, good time to be a QB! And Kirk looks more and more like a bargain by the day whistling .

trades are always an option too, such as for Claypool. they’ve piled up a lot of draft capital and Jordan Love’s in play for a trade too.

right?! i really wish i could convince millions of people to watch me do my job.

I don’t think the careers of Greg Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Davante Adams really support this take. Those are the only higher-round draft pick WRs they’ve given to Rodgers and because the team was good, none of those guys arrived as elite “sure-bet” all stars. When Jennings, Jones, and Cobb went to other teams/QBs they weren’t anywhere near as effective. (Nelson was done when he left so we won’t count him.) The larger issue as I see it is that the team’s leaned so much on Adams that they haven’t drafted a WR in rounds 1-3 since Adams in round 2 of 2014…until Amari Rodgers in round 3 last year. I’m assuming this year will include a WR in round 1 or 2 for sure.

How many pro bowls have those guys made? You’re saying Rodgers can make anyone a Pro Bowler when that has clearly not been the case. Amari Rodgers (tbd), J Mon Moore, St Brown, MVS, Deangelo Yancey, Malachi Dupre, Trevor Davis, and Ty Montgomery are the WR drafted since Davante. And how many Free Agent pro bowl caliber tight ends have they signed that didn’t do much? Jerad Cook and Jimmy Graham off the top of my head, I’m sure there’s more.

Love to hate the Packers as a life long Viking fan…. Thinking the Packers will find a WR in the draft. Rodgers makes an average WR look very good. Hate to say it, but the division is the Packer’s again this year.
