A little sumptin for the pikies…..

For years this orange over black color scheme spinner bait has been a favorite of mine for pike when the water is still cold and the pike are playing in shallow water.

I had some time to play with the air brush and whipped a couple 3/8 ouncers up to have along on the next trip to the backwaters. Of course white and white/chartreuse are still decent pike colors, but I have had more success with this orange over black, maybe three to one.

We gave the crappies a try this morning but the wind made it impossible to keep the baits where they’d catch fish. Had I had the long casting rod along and one of these spinners I’d have taken time to chuck a few casts over to a shallow week flat. Next time that will get done.

Orange and black are killer pike colors. Many many years ago Mister Twister had a yellow double tailed twister with black dots that was my go to pike bait. It was great at a trailer on spinner baits like yours.

I use quite frequently a black and orange daredevil with good results.

For pike black/ornage can be a super color. I like it early in the season while the water is cold.

Same color works well for spring bass, especially on a Chatterbait.

I may have to cook up a couple chatter baits in this combo. Thanks robby!
