A little Advice on Troubleshooting/Possible Install Errors

    Hey everyone, First Post. With Striper season coming up I’d really like to have my unit tuned in. Here are some pictures of what Ive been seeing on my screen and also some pictures of transducer placement. The screen seems cluttered, but it may be Algae/Jellyfish as these pics were taken in the dead of summer. It’s relatively shallow, brackish estuary where I fish. For the most part, Max Depth is around 18′. I have also heard that transducers being placed too close to Trim Tabs and other stuff on the transom can cause clutter as well. Basically just looking for more experienced users to chime in and say either “Everything looks as it should” orrrr “Something is wrong and do this….” Maybe these upcoming cooler months will have less growth and grass in the water to clear things up?

    Here’s My settings:
    Sonar
    Auto Sensitivity=On
    Adjust: Sensitivity=-6
    Colorline=58%
    Freq=83 kHz
    Ping Speed=Fastest
    Noise Rej+Low
    Surf Clarity=Off
    Color=White Background
    Amplitude Scope=Off
    Fish ID=Off

    DSI Options
    Auto Contrast=On
    Range=Auto
    Freq=455
    Ping Speed=Fastest
    Noise Rej=Off
    Surface Clarity=High
    Split Zoom=Off
    Color=Blue Gradient
    Adjust=Auto Contrast and -2%

    Here’s some Pics:

    Do you still get funny readings with the boat off and nothing running?( trolling motor, bilge, blowers)

    I have tabs too my ducer is a tad farther from my tabs than yours. The ducer is lower than most but it should not cause your issues.

    Try turning ping speed down.

    Change Freq to 200 KHz for shallow water.(83 is for deep water). Next, set surf clarity to Low.
    Set Ping Speed to Normal or 75%.
    Set Fishing Mode to “Shallow Water”.
    Find INSTALLATION in the settings menu and select your
    transducer model from the drop down list.
    After making these changes, you may have to re-adjust your
    sensitivity. Never had mine as low as -6.

    DSI
    Set Freq to 800 for better definition / clarity in shallow
    water. 455 is for deep or greater distances.

    If you belong to facebook go to groups and join the Hummingbird group they have some techs on there that will answer most of your questions.Very good group.

    I have a video I have been meaning to post on setting up the sonar and what has worked best for me over the past few years. First like mentioned above have your fishing mode set for “shallow water”, next install your transducer.

    Here are my settings and have worked for many others I have set up for people…Auto Sensitivity, Auto -1 to +2, Unless over 70′ run 200kHz, Ping speed 85-90%, Surface clarity low, Noise Rejection Low or Medium, Colorline 70-76%.

    I think one of your biggest problems is running 83kHz. Give these settings a try I think you will see what you are looking for. Any other questions feel free to ask!
