A few Leech Lake ?'s – Bait and Water Temps

I’m headed to leech lake tomorrow and again next Thur-Sat. Mostly chasing Perch and Sunfish but I’m sure we will Target the Eyes some as well. Does anyone know if any Bait stores along the way from Saint cloud would possibly have any leeches left in stock. I had hoped to buy a decent amount of them for sunfish, but no place locally have them available in bulk. I’m sure the Sunfish will take wax worms or crawlers as well but the leeches tend to last a lot longer between re-baiting.

Anyone have a idea of the current water Temps on Leech. With frost warnings the last few nights for that area I’d think the water temps have fallen rather fast. Seems like the perch bite doesn’t get going well till the water temps fall at least to the mid to low 50’s. Even better when the temps are in the 40’s.

Not sure on exact water temps, but I was out last weekend and was able to take a dip comfortably. It’s been cold this week though… Good luck!!

I was up over labor day weekend and found leaches at the cenex at the intersection of 371 and 210. water temp on the east end was 65 deg.
we found blue gills and some perch.

Water temps I saw were around 62-59 depending on where I was on the lake. My walleye report would fall more into the “what not to do” category unfortunately.
