A BIG Kudos to Savage

A buddy wanted a great long range coyote rifle, and jumped on a deal from Cabelas for a Savage bull 22-250. He had nothing but issues with factory ammo. All Cabelas would do is sell more ammo to try and a shrug of the shoulders. Nick put the rifle in his closet for a couple years and about gave up on it. When I was in CO this last fall, I tried to tinker with it a bit. Checked the OAL off the ogive and his jump to the lands. On average, the jump (varied by each type of ammo) was about .312 – YES way over a quarter inch. Nearly all my custom loads are .005 to about .070.
Called Savage and talked to C/S about the reloading issue I was having with it. Out of warranty – they just said to box it up and send it back. If it was poor workmanship, they would take care of it. So, we did.

Nick just received his rifle back. New barrel and new bolt. He did some test firing with Hornady 55gr Vmax and he’s drilling figure 8’s at 200yrds. And the best part was NO CHARGE!!! Savage did the right thing and took care of him. Its awesome to see companies do this. Way to go Savage!!!

Great story. Good to hear Savage stepping up!

That must have been one messed up chamber/throat.

Unfortunately, all manufactures have something get passed them like this. I bought a new Browning A-bolt in a win.270 back in about 1989ish. Similar issue, but they did NOTHING. It wasn’t quite as bad and I’ve been able to load for it.
Crazy though to see a bullet would need to be almost a 1/4″ out of the brass before it kisses the lands

Awesome. Thanks for the reminder. I gotta get an extractor kit on order before spring Pdogs happen.

Apparently we don’t look at the dirt that closely in the summer ????. Thanks!

Randy, how do the rangefinders perform in the snow? Are they worse than in non/snow?

I’ll also assume it is more challenging to see your misses also?

Are the birds still busy harassing the dogs in the winter?

less objects to acquire with the rangefinders.

Miss???Who misses??? LOL very difficult to see ground impact on a miss

I had 20 something hawks lined up on a fence while I was out last time. After about 30 -40 rounds, the hawks came flying in. Had more badgers than I ever saw before.

They don’t come out until it starts warming up. Kind of like people from Florida coming up here in 6″ of snow lol
