Catfishing

Hey all. I’m looking to drive out and catfish the des moines river sometime this summer. Where would be a good place to start. I am mainly hunting flatheads. Dont want your honey hole. Just a starting point. I can work through the rest.

Boat or shore?

I would be towing my boat out there.

Depends on how big of a boat you are bringing. There is a lot of good catfishing north of saylorville near Boone, but its usually pretty shallow especially during summer. You’d want a flat bottom. Below Saylorville you can run bigger boats if they are letting out more than 2,000, but you still have to be careful.
