I’ve always heard great things about spring fishing on the bay and would like to try it… However, I only have a 15′ aluminum v-hull boat with a 40hp outboard. Assuming average to good weather, could I safely fish the bay?? Of course i do understand weather can and will change rapidly and what’s safe in the morning may not be in the afternoon…

Also, for a newbie where would be a good spot to launch/fish. I am not terribly picky on what I catch – bass, pike, walleye, trout….

    Thanks!!!

Your boat is fine just watch the weather closely, bring a compas/gps (the fog rools in quick)a marine band radio incase of truoble and up to date weather, and rember the water is still in the 30’s you don’t last long if you fall in. As for the fishing the hot pond in ashland is good for the walleye and gators, washburn side for the trout, river mouthes long line stick baits, (Knife River Hint Hint) alys best at sun up. For a good report check outdoorallure.com Good luck! Warning the bay can be addictive.
