Geesh, what is with this winter, right? Man oh man, this warmth is enough to kill a hardcore icehead. Another whole week forecasted for above freezing temps during the day. 40 degrees in Feb, it is just wrong..
But, even so, we still must march on and catch a few fish – while we still have ice up here.
Right now, I am telling folks to stay off the ice from the Sioux River all the way north to the southern part of Bayfield. Open water leads have formed and the ice is moving around in those parts. Bayfield to Red Cliff is still iffy, but can be accessed if folks take precautions and check the ice as they move along.
For the Bay, still have good ice from Bodins resort (south of the Sioux River) all the way into the bay itself. Have to watch out for pressure ridges, mainland and underwater points, docks, etc for thinner ice though.
Fishing wise, a bit slower this week then the week prior, but we are still icing plenty of fish. For the most part, when fishing out here, you will not catch huge numbers of fish each day – but the ones you do catch are quality and give you quite the tussle. We are still icing some great whitefish, browns, splake, a few walleyes, and lots of perch.
