i’ve got Mx 1825 and I’m curious what my trolling speed would be with a 9.9 Yamaha four stroke kicker. I currently have a Yamaha 150 as the main motor will the 99 get me low enough to fill the gap between my terrova and the Yamaha 150.

You should be able to dial it in anywhere from sub 1 mph – 4+ mph, especially with a digital throttle control.

I have a much lighter 17′ metal boat and 1 mph isn’t an issue. If I need a little fine tuning I raise or lower my main motor in conjunction with the bow mount.

I have an MX1835/F150 with a T8 and can get just below 1.0 with the kicker.

Don’t buy the 9.9 yet. Run what you have and see if it will do what you need it to do. Many bow mounts will troll down and also up to the speed you are looking. Hate to see anyone tie up a bunch of money thats not needed.

Now, if you think you need it as a backup safety type thing thats different.

Upstream / downstream / on a lake into the wind / against the wind ???

Plenty of variables to affect the speed…..

In a word “Yes”. If you can swing the added expense, get a “Troll Master” when you get your kicker. Once you have used one, you will never want to fish without one again.

    Absolutely.

If you are out in flat calm conditions, the bowmount will be fine up to over 2mph for a couple hours (maybe). Once you get a chop and/or current, you are going to wish for a kicker. Also a pain in the backside to make big turns while trolling with a bowmount.

They do work together very effectively, the iPilot keeps your heading and the kicker provides the thrust. I almost always use both concurrently.
