Anyone have recommendations for local guys that work on older outboards?

Is that lower unit oil coming up and through the gap between the mid and lower sections?

If so, you may be able to replace the upper seals on the lower unit cheap yourself. Its a pretty simple job. Just drop the lower unit, pull the water pump off, and then you will just about have access to the seals.

Here is a youtube video of how to do it if you decide to take a look. I would think Evinrudes are a similar design.

I don’t know if that’s lower unit or 2-stroke oil. It is coming out of the gap where the lower unit and midsection connects. I took the anode off to get a better picture of where the leak is. I don’t know much about outboards.

Check the lower unit gear oil and see if there is water in it. Two strokes dribble a little sooty fuel/oil all the time. More so if they’re running rich but it doesn’t mean anything. The oil drain screw is the flathead screw on the bottom. That’s where you check. Just get a dribble and put the screw back in.

    What does it taste like?

I know you said local but if the logistics work Prince Bait on 169 near Milaca has earned my trust on Evinrude (and Strikemaster) repair.

So here’s what I found when pulled the screw for lower unit. First spit of oil was milky/brown. There rest is good looking blue.

Safe to run one day this weekend before I bring it in or no?

Could I use gasket sealer on that one spot where I see it seeping out?

Put some gear lube back in there.

I refilled once it was done draining and sealed it up.
