Have the above units installed in a 17′ Targa, looking for mounting/wiring options.

Currently 899 is at the front and 798 on the console. 899 has lake master chip which I rely on heavily… It is up front because I spend 90% of my time up there.

Truthfully, I don’t use my 798 all that much and wouldn’t miss it if it was gone– it came with the boat.

I love my 899 but hate that it’s up front when I’m driving and I would hate if it was on the console while I’m fishing.

Are there less expensive options to be able to move the 899 around the boat as my location changes, rather than just buying another one? Thinking along the lines of having multiple hookups for the same unit depending on what part of the boat I am fishing out of. One mainline feeding into a box of some kind, with two hookups coming out (one at the console, one up front) would do the job until I take the plunge on the 1100and/or onix series. D

If you just want to make a second station at the counsel that should be pretty easy to do. You sould be able to pull the 798 off and use it’s power cord and transducer or transducers if you are running a y cable and a high speed ducer. Then you can just purchase a 800 series collector to hook up the 899. If you are running the front 899 on a ram ball right now then you can just get another base ball and move it to the counsel when your driving. You shouldn’t even have to run any wires or ducers unless you want to also keep the 798 for more than just a GPS on the dash. Hope that makes sense.

Walleyeworld, how much would you want for your 798ci HD SI if you decided to sell it?

I did similar with my boat when I upgraded electronics this spring. I have a 1199 that stays at the console and a 788 that bounces back and forth between the bow and console so it can be used for the map while the big one is full screen side scan or what have you on it. When at the bow I have it run on the universal on the trolling motor, and then I added a second 700 series base on a ram at the console. That base has just a power cord and an Ethernet plug attached to it and when the 788 is there it pulls off the 1100’s transducer in the back through the Ethernet (had to also add the 5 port hub under the console for linking 1100,700 (both bases) and the i-pilot link). Whichever base isn’t being used I have a cover over it to protect he exposed wire heads for the power/Ethernet. So far it has worked well.
