I have a choice between the two length fishing rods. They are Medium with XF tip. If you guys had a choice of those two, which would you choose and why? Same company for both rods.

    Thanks, Ray

Longer will give you more leverage to drive in the hook, take up slack line faster but you maybe less accurate with your casts.

Spinning rod, 6’9″, like it more, personal choice.
    Baitcaster 7’3″ same reason.

What do you plan to fish with the rod. What lures do you plan to throw with it?

Your wife may tell you that she prefers something a little longer than what she gets, but its a little different with fishing rods. Bigger isn’t always better. Like thumper said, depends what you plan on doing with it. Will you need a little softer tip that extra length would give you? Also depends on storage. Rod storage in your boat long enough for 7’3? Will you need to be transporting the rod in your vehicle at all?

First of all, not funny about the wife joke. Second is yes the boat will fit the longer rod. I am going to throw jigs of 1/4 and heavier and throw jig raps, ripping raps and thinking about using it for bottom bouncers.

Sorry I offended you. I don’t use jigging or ripping raps much, but if you’re live bait rigging with bottom bouncers the extra length will certainly help with hooksets. I’ve read that fish can throw jigging raps easily, so from what I understand people prefer braid and a rod with a soft tip. Again, the extra length will benefit you there too. I’m curious to hear others’ opinions.

My opinion is the wife joke was kinda funny. Not your best work, give it a B.

I prefer shorter rods – just purely for the convenience of storage. The performance difference is minimal with the rods I use. Under 7′ stores easier in the boat and truck.

The 7’3 will have more give in the tip and softer hook sets for the jigging raps so you do not rip it out out of there mouth. The longer rod will also work better for bottom bouncers because for the same reason and get it further from the boat. My 2 cents with no wife jokes………

Thanks for all the great insight and advice. I will put those things to use when choosing the right one.
