My son is looking for a 2008 or newer (hull design change) Ranger for fishing Sakakawea. Any thoughts on these models? Anyone run a 619 that wishes they had bought a 620 instead (room to move around, handling rough water, etc.)?

    -Walleye fishing
    – 2-3 people in boat typical
    – Rough water / wind

    Thanks and Happy Friday.

That’s a big piece of water…..I’d definitely look at the 620, or even a 621

    No regerts )

619 is very nice and can pretty much handle anything that you will throw at it. However, I am currently looking to upgrade to a 620 for more space and comfort when fishing 3-4 people out of it.

Having fished Sakawea many times, I believe the 619 will do a good job for you. With that however, length is ALWAYS to your advantage on the nasty days. If the cost was the same, get the longer hull.

My time in a 619 is that if you are fishing with more than 2 people over 50% of the time, you will wished you have gotten the longer hull.

If he normally fishes Sakawea, then go with the 620 or 621. It’s north dakota, the wind is always blowing, and that’s a big body of water. He’ll love either of them but he’ll love it more when it’s blowing and you’re fighting those 3 footers all the time. It’s a fun lake to fish. Felt like a toddler when I made a trip out there with my 17′ tiller. There are some big a$$ boats out there!

619VS and 619FS are totally different hulls, the FS series hull handles the bigger waves and rougher water much better than the VS hulls. If your going with a VS series then I would think 620+. I have owned both a 619VS and 619FS.

I have a 2008 619 and have been on some rough water on lotw and devils lake and never felt in danger.

No doubt the 619 is a solid rig.

But danger and more comfortable are different things.

If the waves are big enough to swamp a 619, they’re big enough to swamp a 621.
