60HP enough for 2014 Impact 1675?

Looking at a 2014 Impact 1675 with a 2014 60hp Merc. Test drove it yesterday and it was just OK. Boat is like new, in great condition. I just question using a 60 hp motor.

My current boat is a 2006 1700 Explorer SS with a 90 hp Merc. It is a fantastic boat and well equipped. Don’t know if going 8 years newer and the Impact layout which I really like will make me happy compared to present rig.

    Thanks for you replies.

    Welcome to the site,

Looks like it has a max 90hp rating, my guess is that you’re not going to be happy with the 60, most everyone on here says to max out the hp of a boat and it’ll perform better.

Agreed, you want to at least be close to max HP. You are pretty far under that with a 60hp. I think you are going to be sorry if you get another person or two in there or get in bigger water with wind or current. We don’t all need high speeds or quick hole shots, but boat control is much better with max HP in current or wind.

There is always the option to buy the boat as is and trade the motor in on one with more HP if you really like the boat itself.

you’ll hate the 60 on that hull.

Agree and thank you for your comments. When we ran it yesterday with 440 lbs of passengers, no gear and 3/4 tank of fuel, when I trimmed it out at full throttle we achieved 26 MPH at 6200 RPM.

It would be OK, if one was just staying on one lake, but we do occasionally do Lake Michigan for salmon and Erie for Walleye. The Erie trip would be a major concerns due to rapid weather changes.

I’m not a big fan of always maxing out hp unlike others, it does payoff in some situations.

But, those numbers are brutal, definitely go bigger motor. That’s a big hull for a 60.

The rule of thumb that I have been told is stay within 90% of max hp.

I have a 2017 Impact 1675 with a 90 hp ETEC; performance is great. I would not recommend going with the 60 hp motor on that boat.

I would always go for max hp. Than you can run at ¾ open and have better MPG. 60hp is just too small for that boat.
