600 vs 1200 denier in Otter

Is 1200 overkill? I am wondering if 600 is enough when people in hubs like the Fatfish 949i with the 300 denier say that it’s plenty warm in there. 600 seems like so much already and I don’t need to be down in my boxers and t-shirt in a flip-over. Yes, it might save more fuel by having the 1200, but I doubt that much more than the 600 denier.

Just trying to figure out if the higher denier, combined with the seats, makes the Pro worth it over the XT model.

    What are your thoughts?

I have the pro XT 1200 and love it. It is a perfect match of warmth, durability and comfort. You can’t go wrong with the 1200 especially if you have someone to fish with. If it’s gets a little warm just open the door or flip open the top. On -0 days it’d still plenty warm.

Will a 97 geo prism with 240k miles get you to work? Yes, I can attest to it. But when it’s snowing and icy would I rather be driving a 4×4 pickup?

I think you’ll find that otter makes an excellent product regardless of what you choose. I believe most people make the choice you are faced with based off of their preference for the bench or seats and the cost. BTW I’m sitting in my otter 1200 pro cottage as I write this now…in my garage sadly… please bring me ice!

For clarification, Denier is a unit of measurement that is used to determine the fiber thickness of individual threads or filaments used in the creation of textiles and fabrics. It would not be the measurement for warmth which would be determined by the quilted insulation layer.

Basically, denier would be attributed to the durability of the exterior shell fabric. Both the XT (600 denier) and the XT Pro (1,200 denier) are fully insulated. While the XT Pro has some great features, you might consider basing your decision on which seating systems best fits your needs.

Individual seats and the added features best fit my needs, where as a bench system would fit the needs of say a parent with small children.

Don’t overthink it, select the Otter shelter that has the features that best fit how you fish.
