What a weird year. Hearing reports of trucks and wheelers going through, and James and I are going ice fishing!

Maybe we’ll get two cracks at first ice this season?

6-8 inches of ice in central wisconsin. 10-14 up north from what I’ve heard. Good luck and stay safe!

Our (west central MN) we got patches with water on the ice. Just grabbed permanent off lake tonight and found a small 2 inch in diameter hole in the ice right next to the house with no end to it. Good thing we went to check. Good luck up there!

I woke to 45 degrees at 4 am out here in Detroit Lakes.

Right now we’re finding lakes on top of lakes. There’s enough ice for light and cautious travel but cracks and access points where there’s been a lot of activity are going to be trouble spots. Be careful out there everyone!

Fished 5-7″ here in northern Michigan this weekend. Any snow that was there melted and became an 1-1/2″ of waking water on top of the ice. Stay safe!

What’s everyone’s opinion on how having Second First Ice affects the fishing?

I was on 9″ yesterday afternoon near Eau Claire, but this rain will eat away at it if we get the 1/4 to 1/2″ that they are calling for. Looks like more snow than rain in MN. I would sooner have the rain.

Winona area Mississippi River backwater ice was 6-8″ yesterday. Gin clear ice and super slick with no snow cover made for easy walking but sure made it tough on the shallow water bite.

Good luck and stay safe out there!

Ice is good up in Ely, 13-15″ on several lakes still.
