6 SLOB anglers from Wisconsin have been caught with 100 walleye over the state limit at Devils Lake and are each facing fines of more than $1,700. According to the Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minn., the men were identified as Michael Wirkus of Racine, Donald Klatkiewicz of Mukwonago, Daniel Klatkiewicz of Hales Corners, Robert Richer Jr. of Hales Corners and Allen Lafave of Racine. A sixth angler, a juvenile, also was part of the crew.

The group has a court date set for Aug. 18.

Just a follow up on the guys that were caught over their limit. The fish was donated to the local VFW in Devils Lake and we had a fish fry for the Vets and their family and friends, all had a great time.

    wonderful,

Great way to not waste the resource and give them to a worthy group.

    Thanks for the followup

Wow… two or more from my home town. Glad I don’t recognize the names. The fines seem on the low side… considering their trip there was probably that much if they stayed a while….. should a couple times that amount.

These fines continue to be way too low. I’d be all for stiffer penalties per fish.

Interesting… I thought DNR officers had that search ability even beyond what the police do. Guess I assumed wrong.

“We’ll just try to do better next time,” he said.(District Warden supervisor, remarking on whether the officers would face any ramifications.)

I’m with Chuck-I’m pretty sure at least here in WI DNR officers have a really wide latitude with searches. I’m almost sure I heard something of the sort during a recent conversation about Walker’s budget plans for the DNR. I understand the need for a “free” nation to protect against “illegal search and seizure”, but I have a hard time with complete dismissal of a serious and flagrant violation of game laws due to a search conducted with clear reason for doing so. I get it, but man… flame

I agree with the premis of them being dirt bags and over the limit but, the constitution is Nationwide and not just limited to North Dakota, those unlawful searches are just as illegal here in Wisconsin. The wardens should have insured they had consent to search.

that is why this is the greatest country in the world. Even dirt balls have the same rights as you and I. Don’t worry, the dirt balls will get what’s coming to them. Karma is a bitch
