Was freakin’ a bit because my Yami was not expelling water, was sure it was clogged at the intake or worse. Dude said the hole(where it expels) is so small it can clog externally, he takes a metal pick and fixes it, course it has to happen when I decide to fish way down in friggin Red Wing!

Dont have a wire in your boat? Snip off the end of a steel leader and use that.

    Weed wacker cord.
Helped another boat last Friday. Plugged and overheated.

Needed it the next day for mine.

I put the weed whacker cord in the hole while parked to prevent the problem. I also keep a few pieces in the boat in case I happen to forget that step.

When you load the boat on the trailer and pull it into your driveway, stick a golf tee into the pee hole. Stop the mud dobbers (bees or wasps) or what ever they are called from trying to nest!

I’m in the garage, but good tip. Lakes have been a sloppy mess, who know what got up there, keeping a paper clip on board though.

I prefer a stiffer piece of copper wire scrap. Especially if it ices up. I tuck it right by the transom so I don’t have to fumble looking for it. Like the trimmer line idea but not sure it would be strong enough to break ice?
The guy I bought my boat from must have hit some serious mud. I think it took 3 outings before she started peeing clear!

Paper clip won’t get it done. 9 times out of 10 it is a bug that crawls up into the hole to build a nest. The last time it happened to me, I had to disconnect the hose at the motor and chase the whole hose. (about 10″)

I carry a 12” piece of weed eater string. It doesn’t hurt to disconnect the pee tube at the block and ream out that area too occasionally

A small straw from your daughters Capri sun also works in a pinch…..don’t ask me how I know that!

I was told that the pee whole has nothing to do with the cooling system and is just a visual indicator. There are other exhaust ports for the water to exhaust from the cooling system.

My Suzuki DF115 has a small diameter pee hole, can you pop that end cap off and drill it out a little? I seen a merc 115 that had almost a 3/8″ pee hole.

I would not mess around with a high tech motor that is worth some 4 figure amount, but that’s me I’m not exactly Mcgyver!

My duck bot motor was a 15 hp yammie. I finally just got rid of the piece that hooked to the hose where it went thru the housing and stuck the hose out the hole a few inches. Never had any problems after that.

Mine wasn’t coming out right a few days ago; tried the bottom bouncer trick and didn’t help. Took the cowling off and popped the hose off where it meets the peehole and there was a little piece of junk in there. Good as new now.

It’s so funny seeing so many people experiencing the same problem i’ve had and solving it the same way.

Exactly, it’s just a visual way of seeing that your system has water pressure.

I run outboards all the time with frozen pee holes. They’ll usually thaw out on their own once the motor warms up.

Gutsier than me B, I wanna hear that pee-mechanic asked if the alarm went off and it had not, I have heard with cars by the time the overheat light goes off damage has been done already (current vehicle has a guage) not sure if thats the same for OBs

It’s a small portion of the water the engine uses for cooling, and in some cases has zero bearing on the engines ability to cool. However there are some engines that use the same water line to feed specific items on the engine. One I just recently looked at for a friend was a 40HP Yamaha, and the water ran through a fuel cooler before leaving out the tell tale. If I remember correctly Merc used the tall tale water to cool the compressor on the Opti’s as well, so it’s definitely worth correcting when you can.

Was it Honda’s that could tie into that part of the system for a warm water faucet accessory?
