Went to a different lake today, but one much like the others I’ve been going to. Shallow lake with only a few feet of water clarity.
Went straight to a bay/weedline where I had success last year and although the weeds are good, I only picked up one 18″er with a few other misses. So I then went to a rock point where they were thick last year, but nothing there yet. Tried another point with mixed hard bottom and weeds, and nothing.
A bit stumped, I decided to head back to the launch area where I knew there were weeds in that 6ft – 7ft depth range. Sure enough, 3rd cast in I boated a nice 19″er. Two casts after that I had another nice one come unbuttoned at the boat and at that point I knew it was game on. I fished for another half hour, put a 17 and another 18 in the well, missed a half dozen or so and had called it a day (wife’s b-day today).
Water temps on the entire lake were still in that 57 degree range, so it’s still a bit cool, but that should change soon.
Tight lines all!
