I drove across the Highway 52 bridge Tuesday morning and the river was starting to open up pretty good from what I could see. Anyone know or have any guesses if the 494 ramp will be usable and Pool 2 open enough to fish this weekend? The forecast on Friday is calling for temperatures in the lower 30s and winds about 10 mph so that should help melt some ice.

My buddy was shed hunting down there today. And yes somebody was fishing.

If I don’t go to P4 I’ll be putting in @ 494 and fishing Sunday.

I used it on Monday. Pretty thick and large ice burgs when they come down. At one point a berg blocked off the entire channel just south of the ramp.

I made it down Saturday afternoon. The ramp was in great shape with no ice shelf. There was a lot of big chunks of ice floating in the channel but by hugging one side of the channel or the other, I could get up on plane during the day. After dark, I just stayed off-plane and went slow. The channel was iced over shore-to-shore just above the railroad bridge so I couldn’t reach the airport area. I fished the channel, channel edge, and wing dams using a variety of techniques during the day but didn’t get a bite. At dark I tried pitching a couple of wing dams but couldn’t even get a bite at prime time. The weather was great with warm temperatures and very light winds. With the nice weather, I was surprised to see just a couple of other boats out.
