.410 bore… What Happened?

I’m not looking for any but I have a couple of family members that have approached me recently, asking if I could spare a box or two. Of course, I obliged, but in their search I became curious enough to look at the market myself.

    $39.99??? For one box???
    Are you kidding me???

So, while I see the shelves starting to fill up again, 410 is still missing, and where it can be found, it’s outrageous! Can anyone shed some light for this old man, what has happened to .410? Why are they so low on availability and high on price?

***Update… I just looked online and they’re available from $17.99 and up, but then you still have to pay shipping too. Many are still over $20/bx. Maybe distribution is finally coming around…

I think overall demand has really hurt. I’m told by those working at the federal plant that it is rather costly to switch over production to a different Gauge ammo. Its just not worth it to them for the short run time they need to produce what the demand calls for.

Good luck .410 has also been hard to find, I have been trying to find a reloader I can load my own.

I run a .410 loader everyday at Federal so if someone says it’s costly to switch over to a different gauge they don’t know what they are talking about. Several loaders are dedicated .410 and at least 1 of those run 24/7. I can’t say numbers being produced but even those of us that work here have trouble getting 410 and wonder where it is all going.

It’s baffling there’s a shortage of anything to be honest . The ammo manufacturers have to be running 3x of what they were 5 years ago but some how there’s never any ammo besides 223 and 9mm and 308 . Sitting on 140 rounds of 22-250 and I feel like it’s gold bars haha.

I had heard on a radio program that due to the demand of non-hunting ammo, the manufacturers simply didn’t produce any for the 2021 fall season and the flux emptied the supply. I’m not sure how much I can believe that, but the same program said the manufacturers were responding and that they’d have the shelves ready for 2022. Well, at the Hudson Fleet Farm, they did not have .243, .270win, .30-30, and very little 6.5 Crd, 7mm-08, 30-06, 7mmRM… No short mags or less popular cartridges, except 6.5prc, 300prc, 7×57… handful of others. NOW the shelves are filling. Crazy times…

Thanks for the correction. This Info. came to me from a few workers at Federal a few years ago. Its hard to believe that they have several loaders and 1 running 24/7 that its almost impossible to find a box anywhere. Sure would be interesting to see the total #’s produced a week and see where all of them are shipping.

The numbers would boggle your mind. I won’t say for obvious reasons and while 410 numbers are high they are a small percentage of total daily production.

Federal has 8 shot target loads (8 case limit) and TSS turkey loads available this evening.

Federal pays shipping on orders over $149.00

Seems like quite a few other brands and various shot sizes available at other online retailers. Most appear to cost around $17 – $25 a box.

    Example: Nobel Sport ANS4136, .410, 11/16oz, 3″, Max Dram, #6 25 RD Per Box $24.89

If you are serious about purchasing ammo and at a reasonable price

    1) buy on-line
    2) attend a clay shooting competition or visit one in progress
