Currently I have a # 43-73136 A40l 13 pitch prop on my 40 Mercury , It is need of replacement.

Is there any other prop I can run on this motor with out breaking the bank or should I just stick with a stock replacement ?

I dont have any issues getting it to plane out or speed (29-31mph) with the stock prop but it is getting chewed a little and I want to replace it this winter.

    TIA Jeff

If you are happy with the performance you are getting i would replace it with the same. if your old prop is smaller due to wear. it may change some anyway.

I seems I have left a little of it in the back water of pool 4 grin , I dont expect any more speed for a 40 hp with a new prop just thought I would see what other options are.

When I was researching prop options for my 25 earlier this summer it seemed from most info that unless the HP is over 75 its not going to make much a difference. SS, different pitches, etc etc. I had a 10×13, looking for better hole shot I got a 10×12, unfortanetly it kept blowing out on corners. Went back to the 10×13.

    Trumar,

I went through the same thought process, wondering if something would be better for my 40 HP Johnson last year and in the end, decided to stay with the stock prop. I judged that there was too much uncertainty with knowing whether top end or take off would have cavitation, so I decided to stay with what I had as it worked well enough.

Just get it fixed. This guys has redone a lot of props for me, and his prices and turnaround time (including shipping) are hard to beat!
