What is everyone using for oil in their 4 stroke outboards? I have a 2005 Johnson(suzuki powerhead) and have been using yamalube for the last 2 years. I haven’t had any issues, but I guess as the motor gets older I want to protect it more. I love this motor. I am all ears…

Not to hijack…but I thought this would be a good place to make a DIY oil change video. I know this is for a Yamaha motor (it says so on her hat)

Watch and learn. PS I would stick with Yamalube.

I think as long as it meets NMMA specs your good, Me I have a Suzuki also and use Suzuki oil because the guy at the parts desk gives me a good price on it.

Brian… I must be getting old… it took me more than five seconds to figure out what was more sexy, that shiny new F300 or the young lady.

Oil – Just just use the Yamaha stuff – just cause. As said, if it has the right ratings, it should all be good.

I use Amsoil in the engine and lower unit. The Amsoil gear lube says it protects even with 10% water mixed in.

I have a 140 Suzuki that I bought new in 2003. 2400 hrs and runs perfect! Used Suzuki oil for the first 5 yrs while it was still under warranty then got tired of paying 6.50 or more a quart. Been using the same 10-40 valvaline I run in my trucks with no problem whatsoever since then. 1 oil and filter change each spring, I do check the dipstick every month but never have to add any.

I pay $6 or $7 a quart for the Evinrude 4-stroke oil. But I suspect the $3 oil at Menards would work just fine. With an oil change only every 100 hours I figure why take a chance.
