I don’t believe that at all. You ever towed 13k. My everyday catapillar genset trailer is 12.500, and that thing is rough with a 1 ton. Yeah the half ton probably can pull it, but that’ll be about it. The tow ratings these days are wildly misleading.Well its true. I have never towed that kind of weight and I certainly wouldnt do it with my truck even if it was rated for it, but that is what its rated for with Max Tow pkg and that duramax engine. Heck wasnt it grouse that was towing a skid steer with his Acadia or whatever? LOL
My FIL showed up at the house last week pulling a 22′ Ski Nautique with his wife’s Acura MDX. That’s a 4900# boat dry, probably a 1500# trailer, 60 gallons of fuel, and all their slalom gear onboard. I’d bet he was towing over 7500#. He said his trucks were all hooked to stuff already and he was in a hurry to get a run in before dark.
It can be done. Should it? Probably not. We did get a couple strange looks at the local launch. I’m not sure if it was from the skiing in ~40 degree water, or the tow vehicle of choice.
