Wish I had more time to report but 3 1/2 hrs was all we fished this weekend. Got up later Friday and with the heat we had to swim right away. Got to fishing about 8pm, and same Saturday, with the tubing, swimming, ice cream, pizza etc that the lake had to offer we setup on the same 20′ rock pile about 730pm. Leeches took most, some on crawler. Plain hook on slips. Few were caught right over side of boat on my braid rod with a jig I just set there.

Couple more. These are just a handful of the fish caught, they would move in packs, if one bobber went down watch the others!

Glad you found a place. Sounds like y’all had a blast! Good times, great memories. That lake has made many a Dad into hero’s. And not just because of the fishing.

That lake has made many a Dad into hero’s.

What a great advertising slogan there.

Completely agreed. Not to be controversial, but for the family when we were in the boat, the past history of that lake didn’t matter, the future didn’t matter, the what it is in the here and now and what it gave to us was magical.

Booking more rooms within the week.

I will be headed up there on the 5th-7th with my family, any specific areas to target that you could share with me would be great. Looking to get my 9 yr old and wife on some fish.

We were on the SE part of lake around father hennipen. To be honest it was so late in the day I scanned a few humps on the garmin map that said rocks and anchored on the 4th one which had the most baitfish. Rock spine kinda came from deeper water and we were on that. 30′ in the vicinity. Not huge boulders but Rocky.

If you are headed that way send me a PM.

    Bravo Father Nick applause

Reminds me of when I took my 2 girls out when they were that age. They grow up fast…don’t blink.

BTW, I was up in that neighborhood myself since last Wednesday. Quite the storm Friday night/early Saturday morning. shock

That storm was nasty. Not the wind so much but the lightning was insane. I actually got the kids out of bed at about 1230 or so to go down to the dock and watch it roll in for a bit, now that was cool.

Congratulations, way to get the kids on some quality fish. We fished the west side flats Saturday afternoon. 26 walleye in 4 hours with the largest being 26 1/2. Caught by my son. I agree with what you said about the past and the future. It sure is great right now.

Nice work! We were out on Monday trolling lead and caught 26 eyes and 2 smallies in 5 hours. All the eye’s were 15-20″ too.

Those kiddos will remember that catch and be back with their kids before you blink. Good times!
