2nd boat?

It is usually around this time of year that I think about getting a second boat. Something that I can push out over the ice into the main channel. Something that I can run the sloughs with during the rest of the year. The first thing I debate over is the size. Obviously small and light enough to push out. Sometimes as much as 30-40 yards is not too uncommon. Definitely leaning towards a modified V. Size of motor will all depend on the size of the boat. But I would like to be able troll slow enough to 3 way. I would probably not have a Trolling motor on during the winter months, but definitely during the rest of the year. For all that have more experience in this, are there any specific things I should look for in a trailer for this purpose?

I have a small 2nd fishing boat for hitting smaller lakes. The roller trailer makes it easy for me to handle alone. I can pull the boat on the trailer by hand.

For the trailer you will have to have a tilt trailer for sure and probably want roller bunks to facilitate on and off the ice. Both would also help on unimproved and shallow ramps. One other thing I’d recommend is a Terrova with I-pilot. The ideal situation is to have one you can switch back and forth between your two boats.

We have a 36 volt Terrova with I link. The Shaft would be way too long for the small boat.

I recently got rid of my 14′ jon boat that I used as a truck topper on a rack. The older that I’ve gotten, the more that was to wrestle with. I think a 12′ jon boat would make a great 1 man ditch & pond boat.

I have an alumacraft t14s for a winter/beater/river boat and it is great for pushing across the ice or landing in any landing or lack of a landing. Currently have a 8 hp Yamaha 2 stroke on it and it trolls to a creep, runs up to 18 mph with 1 person and about 14 mph with 2. It is about as small of a boat as I would want but I am pondering getting something a bit larger and deeper. Possibly along the lines of an alumacraft v14 or a 14′ lund rebel.
A few other small items; I prefer the clamp on transducer mounts so you can remove when sliding across the ice. A 12 volt terrova with spot lock would be really nice but a cheap minnkota transom mount is really helpful. And I travel on longer trips with my little boat so I was only going to settle for a trailer with 12″ rims and the next one will be galvanized also.

    TIA,

    1440 MV jon.
    9.9 2-cycle motor.
Galvinized trailer with inline rubber rollers.
    Trolling motor of your choice.
Really no need for a floor, unless you use aluminum to save weight.

I’m also dreaming of a second, small boat, but won’t buy it this year, that’s for sure…
