24 volt trolling motor battery storage

I originally posted this up on the general discussion forum not knowing there was a Crestliner forum. I have a 2003 Crestliner 1850 Sportfish. I am wanting to replace my old 12 volt trolling motor for a new Terrova 24 volt. My issue is with battery storage. The compartment on the center bow will only hold one group 31 deep cycle battery. Back left of that compartment is a live well and back right is another storage compartment. Is it OK to not put the two batteries side by side and have one wired up in another compartment? Anyone have a similar issue with battery placement and how did you deal with it? I am not interested in the added expense of lithium batteries.

Will group 27 fit in tht space, going from 12v to 24v is a huge difference and twin 27s is impressive.
But No, they can be anywhere in the boat as long as the wires go where they are needed.

You absolutely can run jumper wires from one compartment to another, just make sure the wires are well-secured and don’t run across any sharp edges. Sparks in a boat, where fuel fumes are possible, are to be avoided. Jumper wires should be heavy gauge; there are charts for choosing size depending on amp draw and run length. Google is your friend.
