Anybody have a good working load for a 16″ barrel with a 1/8 twist using a vmax bullet?

Getting ready to start trialing handloads for this LaRue rifle and figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask this community.

Im hoping I can work up a 60 grain to work in this barrel because heavier options are extremely limited.

    Thanks

Prairie dog is the target, so I’d like to stay with vmax if possible but not against blitzking either.

My buddy has a 16″ larue barrel on one of his uppers. I just texted him as to what handload we were shooting last summer.
“60gr nosler ballistic tip varmint with 25.8 grains of varget”

We also shot a lot of factory loaded Federal AE AR223 Tipped Varmint, mostly because it shoots sub MOA out of 1 of my guns and 2 of his, and I got 1000 rounds of it for 30-35 cpr.

The 1/8″ will probably do better with longer, heavier bullets. For a super accurate screamin meemie with light bullets you’d need something more like 1/134, 1/14″ barrel.

I had Tikka with 1&8 twist 23.5″ barrel and it liked 52 grain bullets. I did find a 73 grain burger load that worked good too.

I would think you should be able to stabilize a 77 grain in that unless the FPS is too low. I get good results from my Savage with a 24″ barrel with a 1/9 twist, my AR’s with a 1:9 the bullets start going a bit sideways at 300 yards but with shorter barrels that will happen
