Not a single game on Sunday Night Football. And only one game on a Monday and one on a Thursday.

Tons of noon games which tells me the NFL thinks they are not going to be very good. They generally put better teams in the prime time slots.

    4-5 wins sounds about right.

Hardly any primetime games? Talk about a schedule built for Kirk Cousins! rotflol

x3 I put them around 6-8 wins, unless JJ wins the job early and is a stud (God Willing). Not saying I expect that to happen, but a boy can dream.

I’m guessing they hit 8 wins.

I think the defense will be much improved, and think Darnold will be serviceable early. This is a team that just rolled out Hall, Mullens, the astronaut, etc. Comparatively I think Darnold will look much better.

That is a gem of a comment!!! rotflol rotflol rotflol

I’m totally cool with rolling Darnold out for the first 14 weeks and letting McCarthy study and learn, and maybe giving him the start or a half in the final 3 games. Sure, we’ll be barely competitive, probably almost unwatchable, but let’s patiently get our future QB set up to speed, get a top ten first rounder next draft and be solid for 2025.

I think this team will be better than 500. Too many skilled players. IMO this team is better sans QB situation than a year ago. They do have a tough schedule, but if they are healthy I think they will be much improved. Looked how many games they won last year with all the injuries.

The Vikings have the 18th toughest schedule based on last season’s records.

The NFC North is going to be a dog fight though. I don’t think there’s any easy wins inside the division. Every team should be as good as they were last year or better.

I’m sticking with 4 wins. 5 if we are really lucky. And LUCKY will be the key.
18th hardest schedule, why not say 14th easiest schedule.

I hate to say it like this but I view this season as kind of a wash with the objective to be in a somewhat significantly better position this time next year. Development at QB is by far the most important (thanks Captain Obvious). Defense should improve in scheme and playing together. I’ve heard it said that this would be a good time to start having a running game and an identity to that running game, although I feel that situation is somewhat in flux because if they have a decent year running the ball, Aaron Jones will be a part of that and he’s only on a 1-year contract.

QB is tricky. I think everyone is expecting JJ to play by the end of the year. If so and it’s because he’s developed and ready that’s fine, and the season may be lost anyway (which again, I’m fine with). It would not surprise me to see Darnold play at least “well enough” if you look at the bright side of a highly drafted QB finally in a very good situation to be in.

This time next year if the QB situation is much improved, the defense is working as a solid unit, and we get a contributor or two out of the 2025 draft, plus a ton of cap space, that’s when we could see a major step forward.

Reisner resigned as well, so we will have the same solid OL as last year. Hopefully that continuity helps a bit.

Injuries play a pivotal role in the NFL. Who is hurt the week you play a team (both sides). What team loses key players for the season …

Parity scheduling certainly helps a bit too. Vikings drop from #1 to #3 in the parity games. Detroit and Greenbay both move up a tick.

JJets got paid! nice that we get Jefferson’s best 5 years and it aligns with McCarthy’s Rookie 5 year deal…now we need McCarthy to pan out as we hope he will, if he does, this is a perfect deal, IF McCarthy fails, then this will be an anchor contract as we’ll likely need to pay an established QB to come in and start… NFL Salary cap will continue to go up every year and there will be much lesser talented WR’s that sign for more in the near future… I’ll never doubt JJ’s desire to be the best WR in the league, the kid is special…

Glad he’s signed although with the price of a Big Mac continuing to climb he might need to renegotiate in a year or so. wink

Everything I have been hearing about McCarthy is that the Vikings have been very impressed with him so far picking everything up. Of course they would probably say that. I am sure GB said the same thing about Love and SF about Lance.

yeah, the Vikings are always going to publicly pump his tires…i’m waiting for his first preseason game action to see if he’s poised in the pocket or if his feet are on fire and he panics…that’s the first thing I always notice with good QB’s vs those that don’t last…

If McCarthy isn’t the guy, they are probably getting a new GM and possibly coach to try again in 3 years. So there would be 2 rookies with a shot at working w/ JJ. Also, JJ knows the caps going up drastically as well, which is why it’s only a 4 year extension basically.

I don’t think the Vikings Ownership would be happy paying a WR $35 million to catch passes from ANOTHER rookie QB after McCarthy just failed…they’ll want to bring in an established QB (like a Kirk Cousins) to salvage the Jefferson window (I agree with you it would mean the end of KOC and Qwesi).

The NFL doesn’t give big contracts to 30+ year old free agent WR’s (Jefferson will be 30 when he signs his next deal)…i’d be willing to bet Jefferson’s camp wanted more than 4 years and the Vikings pushed back…from the Vikings perspective, they are rolling the dice that “overpaying” with a HUGE 1st year signing bonus for a WR is acceptable when your QB is on a preset QB scale for the next 5 years…

if this all works out, JJ McCarthy signs an absolutely ridiculous 2nd contract extension when Jefferson’s deal comes off the books and we’ll be looking to offset the huge QB caphit with rookie WR’s (just like the Chiefs have been doing)

No, he won’t. He’s 24 now, and would be 28/29 if he played out this full extension, which won’t happen as he will likely be resigned to a new, even bigger, deal a year or two before the contract is up and when he’s 27/28. Which is about how old Tyreek was when he got the massive deal from the Dolphins.

This upcoming season is the last of his 5 year Rookie contract (Vikings obviously picked up the 5th year option for 1st round picks) then the new 4 year contract starts NEXT season…he turns 25 years old in 13 days…he’ll be 30 years old when the season starts for whatever team he signs his next contract with… now he could restructure and/or defer money around or the Vikings could cut him in a few years if he gets hurt or completely falls apart, but those are all unknowns and hypotheticals, the only thing known is that he gets $89 million guaranteed immediately when he signs the extension…

it was a no brainer imo…we just bought the best 4 years of a likely hall of fame wide receiver’s career while our QB of the future is on a pre-set pay scale for 5 years…
