Reading the beginning of this again is interesting. Anyone heard of Greenard? Kirks gone gonna be along year. Mullens sucks but would take him over a retread like Darnold.

Wasnt that Jones instead of Darnold? I wonder what Jones is actively doing? Granted he is on the practice squad so likely scout duty, but is he picking anything up? He would possibly be worth keeping around next year as backup if we can keep Darnold, but not sold on him being a starter.
January 3, 2025 at 11:38 am #2308400I don’t think Jones is interested in being a backup, yet. When he was released by the Giants, it was reported that several teams were interested in him as a starting QB option (maybe not immediately, but eventually). And he still chose the Vikings solely because he wanted to select a team that was in contention.
Not saying that he won’t be here next season, because he still might. There’s still plenty of teams out there in dire need of a starting QB option. The problem is the cost. I think the Giants are still on the hook with much of his salary regardless of where he goes. Same with Cousins and Atlanta.
Rodgers is rumored to be playing his final game as a starting QB on Sunday. So maybe the Jets will be interested in Jones. He’d be playing at the exact same stadium that he did when he played for the Giants. Problem is that any QB for the Jets seems to fail miserably.
January 3, 2025 at 11:45 am #2308401Jones needs exactly what KOC is…a young, offensive minded coach with a track record of elevating quarterbacks’ play.
If Danny Dimes laces them up in New York for the Jets as their starter, that dumpster will be burning by Week 3.

January 3, 2025 at 12:04 pm #2308405Musky you shouldn’t be day drinking on a Monday! Mullens will likely not be on the roster next fall, or if he is he will be QB3. I expect them to sign a veteran legitimate QB like Darnold, Tannehill etc
I would rather roll out Mullens than those retreads you mentioned

There is 0 chance they keep Darnold, Jones and McCarthy next year. And let’s not forget about your boy Mullens, do you still wish he was starting over Darnold? There was a rumor Danny Dimes might get moved up to QB2 here for the playoffs. I think they franchise or sign Darnold, and if not then run it back with Danny Dimes in the Darnold role next year.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23559January 3, 2025 at 12:04 pm #2308407Bucky nailed it! He has talent but if there is nothing around him whoa Nelly!

I dont believe I said Mullens over Darnold, but I do know I said him over Jones. Which I still stand behind. He had been in the system and was a known quantity at the time. Mullens is likely gone. Which is fine I figured that. JJ is locked in so that leaves the other two. 0 Chance those 3 are still around? I dont think so. We will see. What has Jones done in the last two years to show he is worth a starting job on a good team? If he is going to be a starter which he obviously wants its on a trash team which is what he obviously doesnt want which is why he came here in the first place. He would rather ride the pine than get the snot knocked out of him. I was a fan of Darnold because he had no weapons and clearly had talent. Jones is similar but I dont think quite the same boat as the redhead coming to bring us a SuperBowl.
January 3, 2025 at 1:04 pm #2308419JJ is locked in
He’s not locked in.
In fact there are rumors other teams are interested in trading for him if the Vikings re-sign Sam Darnold.
RipjiggenPosts: 11945January 3, 2025 at 1:06 pm #2308420Just rumors.
If Darnold is on the team Jones is not.
Personally I don’t think JJ is going anywhere this off season.BrittmanPosts: 2123January 3, 2025 at 1:30 pm #2308423A few more games to play before that becomes a concern or point of discussion.

[/quote] you guys talking JJ……LIKE Jefferson??????/ i thought he just signed a mega deal for a long time with the Vikes……i’m confused.CaptainMuskyPosts: 23559January 3, 2025 at 1:38 pm #2308428JJ is under a rookie contract. He is the only QB on roster for next year. The rest are not. He isnt going anywhere unless the Vikings allow him to.

No, McCarthy. the other JJ goes by Jets now.

awe…..i get it now…….McCarthy!!!!!
to many JJ’s!!!!!
January 3, 2025 at 1:50 pm #2308432Sorry, I meant McCarthy. I’ll use that from now on. The real JJ is Jefferson.
January 3, 2025 at 1:56 pm #2308433I’m betting Darnold and JJ are back, while Danny Dimes ends up fighting for a starting spot on some lackluster team in a camp battle this August. My best guess is that Darnold will either be franchise tagged, or sign a 2 year deal in the area of ~$90 million. Barring a disaster during a second year in Minnesota with Darnold at the helm in 2025, KOC could then make his choice and trade the other after next season. McCarthy would still hold value, as would one more year at market value on Darnold’s contract if they keep him without tagging him.
Darnold has the ideal situation with the most weapons and best offensive coaching that will likely be available. The only other comparable situation would be if San Fran was shopping around and leaves Purdy in the dust. Anywhere else Darnold goes would be very short on weapons compared to what he is now used to.
January 3, 2025 at 1:58 pm #2308435I dont believe I said Mullens over Darnold
It’s on page 1, but Jeremy quoted you from page 1 above too.

Yes, if Darnold is around, Jones won’t be and vice versa. And a very slim outside chance McCarthy could get traded if they somehow wanted to keep Jones and Darnold (Very very unlikely).
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23559January 3, 2025 at 2:08 pm #2308438I was moreso talking about Tannehill than Darnold and was getting a bit aggressive. If you search my many follow up posts I was one of the only ones to try and stop everyone from jumping off the ledge about this being a 4 or 5 win team when it was largely unchanged from last year and hopefully everyone was healthy. I went on to say that Darnold actually had a few good games when he had some talent around him with SF in what a game and change???. Jones had 1 and that got him paid.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23559January 3, 2025 at 2:10 pm #2308441Yes, if Darnold is around, Jones won’t be and vice versa. And a very slim outside chance McCarthy could get traded if they somehow wanted to keep Jones and Darnold (Very very unlikely).
Lets just hope its the former vs the latter. They could trade McCarthy for sure, but he certainly isnt leaving on his own accord which is what I said.
January 3, 2025 at 2:14 pm #2308444I think Jones has to be elevated to the roster this weekend if they want to get draft compensation if he leaves. And we all know they need draft capital.
The rumors about trading JJ… I’m with Rip, they’re just rumors. A year ago there was a lot of garbage click bait about how Jefferson wanted out too.
I’m personally in the “have it both ways” camp on QB and hope the Vikings are too. Keep Sam, who’s stellar in this system, and keep JJ. It’s not the norm anymore to draft a QB and have him sit 2-3 years…. but this is one crazy unicorn of a situation. Yes, the plan was to spend a lot on free agency because QB1 would be on a rookie deal. And I do think Kwesi and the Wilfs put together a great plan. But things have changed.

Yeah that one injury alone sure put a bomb through the middle of their plans I am sure.

Agreed, I think Sam getting Franchised is most likely. I believe KFAN said it would be in the $41M range, which would be a discount compared to the guaranteed money he’d get in the market. Let him and JJ compete for the starting spot next year, and a $41M backup that can play at Sam’s level would be a great problem to have.

This would be the ideal scenario. I dont think JJ will be ready to start out of the gate, but it would be a good problem to have if he did and Darnold is on the bench I guess sans the $41M price tag. Could be worse, you could be looking at what Atlanta did or is rumored to be doing with Cousins and have nothing but dead money granted its likely all off the books after this year but still.
January 3, 2025 at 2:40 pm #2308459Also, for those that enjoy KOC’s locker room speeches and other team videos….this is Sam’s damn team right now. Much has been said about this team’s chemistry, and people that have been around the Vikings for decades say this team right now is truly special. I think the locker room wants Sam back too.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23559January 3, 2025 at 3:04 pm #2308466That could all change after the next two games.
Dont be Debbie Downer now!
January 3, 2025 at 3:25 pm #2308474Kinda hard Ive been around awhile. Had a customer named Gary Anderson last week and one named Darrin Nelson this week. Brought back some bad memories. Neither were them but still. When I asked Gary why he missed the kick he just laughed and said nobody has said that in 10 years. When I asked Darrin why he dropped the ball at the goal line he looked at me like I was a wacko. Apparently hes not a Viking guy.
