I concur with everything Big Werm just wrote. If the Lions are going to win, they probably will need to win the turnover battle decisively like they did last night with two second-half INT’s. The problem with that for the Lions is the Vikings D are ball-hawks. And they are exceptional at turning opponents over on Downs if they go for it on 4th Down. With every other team in the league, the odds are about a coin flip or better for the team that chooses to go for it. The Vikes stuff the play almost 2/3rds of the time,

Just watched “The History Of The Vikings” on You Tube. It covered the first 50 years. Very interesting to see and recall some of the players from years gone by. One thing for sure….it was a much more brutal game than it is today.

If you have time it’s a good watch.

I still don’t understand the new kick offs. Really don’t care too. Just look for a kneel or a run out.

If a Special Teams unit is on point, it provides opportunities for both the kicking side of the ball and the returning. I don’t trust the Vikings Special Teams as far as I can kick them. They have been inconsistent all year, and I thought in the Packer game, they were just bad because of how many mistakes they made. The worst game for them all year.

Looks like hell is going to freeze over this year.

Ole and Sven die in a snowmobiling accident, drunker than skunks, And go to Hell. The Devil observes that they are really enjoying themselves. He says to them ‘Doesnt the heat and smoke bother you?’ Ole replies, ‘Vell, ya know, ve’re from nordern Minnesooota, da land of snow an ice, an ve’re yust happy fer a chance ta varm up a little bit, ya know.’
The devil decides that these two aren’t miserable enough andturns up the heat even more. When he returns to the room of the two from Minnesota , the devil finds them in light jackets and hats, grilling Walleye and drinking beer. The devil is astonished and exclaims, ‘Everyone down here is in misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourselves?’ Sven replies, ‘Vell, ya know, ve don’t git too much varm veather up dere at da Falls, so ve’ve yust got ta haff a fish fry vhen da veather’s dis nice.’
The devil is absolutely furious. He can hardly see straight. Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been cold all their lives. The devil decides to turn all the heat off in Hell. The next morning, the temperature is 60 below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere, and people are shivering so bad that they are unable to wail, moan or gnash their teeth. The devil smiles and heads for the room with Ole and Sven. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, bomber hats, and mittens. They are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men.
The devil is dumbfounded, ‘I don’t understand, when I turn up the heat you’re happy. Now its freezing cold and you’re still happy. What is wrong with you two?’
They both look at the devil in surprise and say, ‘Vell, don’t ya know, if hell iss froze over, dat must mean da Vikings von da Super Bowl.’

The radio said this is the first time in the history of the league in which there is a game between two teams that each have at least 14 wins.

Kind of a shame the loser has to drop to the 5 seed with 14 wins. It is what it is though. That’s the format in this league. You gotta win your division for a home playoff game.

Gim on top of that this will be the first time a 14 win team won’t win their division. Imagine that?! It is pretty unprecedented to have 2 teams from same division with 14 wins. To me, this game means more to the Vikings imo. The lions have a swagger about them and Campbell is going to gamble for sure. I like our chances however I hope it’s a good game. I sure am happy for lions fans to finally have a good team and if the Vikings get bounced and they are still in it down the road I will jump on the that ride with them.

Give me the Vikings 34, Lions 31.

I don’t see either defense consistently stopping the opposing offense in this game. The turnover battle will for sure decide it. I think Goff gets drilled for a crucial sack + fumble that ultimately sways things.

Both QBs throw for over 300 yards and 3TDs.

Side Note: I think whoever loses this game will NOT make the NFC Championship, regardless of their 14 regular season wins. The Eagles would be a rather tough out IN Philly right now. As rough as the Packers looked against the Vikings…they should be healthier in a couple weeks and can run the ball on anyone to slow things down and keep themselves in games. Tampa can score with anyone too as of late it seems.

I think kickoffs will eventually go away as the outcry increases that it’s uneventful. Most of the time it’s a nothing sequence. The NFL keeps tinkering but doesn’t seem to change anything. I’m more bothered by the new onside kick rule…having any chance of recovery is almost zero.

I get player safety, but the league is so overregulated now that the product is a far cry from what it was 30 years ago from a watchability standpoint.

No. But the line-up pre kick looks weird.

I agree, onside kicks I liked better before.

I think there have only been 2 successful onside kicks this year and one was the Bears versus the Vikes.

Ya the interactive kickoffs and the new onside kick rules are dumb. Failure. Go back to what they were before.

Just released: The Vikings have 6 players going to the pro-bowl. All deserved, and I realize that that there are 31 other teams, but I feel like Addison could’ve been in the mix – although he was quiet early on when Sam Darnold was forcing the ball to JJ. Byron Murphy is good but he feels like the the odd-ball here, in a secondary that give up a lot of yards (but has a lot of picks, as well).

I think Cashman, Phillips and Metellus are also “alternate-worthy” considerations.

QB Sam Darnold, WR Justin Jefferson, CB Byron Murphy, Jr., OLB Jonathan Greenard, OLB Andrew Van Ginkel and LS Andrew DePaola all made the initial all-star roster, the league announced Thursday.

Yeah, I almost said it in my original post. It’s too bad that we wont get to watch these guys play flag football.

Did I hear right that JJ McCarthy is now back participating in team practices at full speed? I know he’ll probably be running scout team stuff but if he’s back on the field thats great news…

I don’t think that is accurate. He is ineligible to practice with the team.

Hahahaha! Pout in with his annual threat to torch his Vikings chair. rotflol

This is a different team than I’ve ever seen in my 50+ year fandom. Something special is happening and hope they can pull it off. Skol!!

There might be some things he can do, but I really doubt he can take any real snaps due to IR or whatever so I agree with Rip there.
I did read a couple weeks back that they have been using VR of Darnold’s games to get JJ up to speed with reps or what he is seeing. Pretty cool.

Ya I read that too. Its the closest to game action they can do for him within the rules. McCarthy cannot practice. And honestly I’m not even sure if he is physically able to anyways because he had a second surgery in November.

I got BP agreeing with me wholeheartedly, and EPG dusted off the chair and pretty sure I saw him wandering around Nicollet mall with a bottle of Rip Van Winkle….How do I pump the brakes here? I don’t want to bring up the years, but we all know them…
