How would the Vikings pick up a draft pick? He was cut and cleared waivers. So confused…
Is the vikings game this week gonna be flexed?
No. At least not to a night game.
They are required to do it at least 12 days in advance for weeks 5-13 and at least 6 days in advance for weeks 14-17.
The next 2 home games against Arizona and Atlanta will both be noon games because the deadline to move them has passed.
They could still move the Atlanta game from a noon to a 3pm start.
A lot of first round draft pick failures. Are the odds ever that good ?
Some even flame up early on only to flame out. Most get a second or even a third chance and they sure earn a pretty damn nice living through on the backup market.
Glad Darnold is a Viking, but the moves management made on Defense in the off-season remain even more impressive.
In case anyone was wondering I do NOT talk and text with KOC at all. Just a couple great football minds coming to the same conclusion @CaptainMusky
I have no issue keeping Nick Mullens as the backup, regardless of who is the starter. He is cheap, he’s a veteran, and he’s capable of coming in and not losing a step with this offense.
The only issue is that he often gets too aggressive and tries to play “hero ball” which results in more interceptions. But he can clearly toss for 300-400 yards as demostrated in the past.
I would have no issues if Daniel jones replaced Mullens.

Me either but if he is going to be #1 then that is an issue.
Yes the issue would be JJ McCarthy not being good or ready to play in the NFL.
In that case Mullens is your 1 next year. No thanks.

If the vikes pick him up and pay him this year but he doesn’t make the team next year, the Giants would owe the Vikes a compensatory pick in 2026. It’s usually a 5th or 6th rounder.
Thanks Matt doesn’t make a lot of sense but neither does anything else I guess
All I have to say is if Rodgers ends up in a Viking uniform I’m done watching the Vikings. I didn’t have any problem when Favre ended up in purple because I respected him as a player. I can’t stand Rodgers. He’s not a team player and would be cancer for this team.
You gotta think A rog is gonna retire after this year, or one more season.

Yesterday he said he wants to play one more year for the Jets.

Darnold, Jones, Mullens, Rypien, McCarthy.
“In Kwesi Adofo Mensah We Trust” should be printed on all Minnesota currency from here forward.
Vikes just signed Jones.
We will see what happens. He definitely has some skill maybe in the right system he can do something, but I would not want him to start next year I just dont see that working out. I could be wrong. I didnt see Darnold having the type of year he is having though I thought he would have the best chance of his entire career to succeed here vs everywhere else he has been.
It’s a full-reset for Jones. Signed to practice squad and KOC will take his time with him. While making him a first-option back-up and insurance policy for McCarthy is the goal, I don’t think he bumps Mullens out of the #2 spot for a while. There’s potential there, and KOC is the guy to realize it.

These are my thoughts too. We already know what we have with Mullens. JJ is the future or so we hope so he is going to get the #1 shot. It would be nice to keep Darnold, but price and space for him just dont seem to work.
Yeah, basically confirms for Darnold – Thanks for a great year and you’ll be missed. But JJM is our guy and Jones is in our back pocket. Darnold can thank the Vikings for making his stock rebound. Will be interesting to see where he goes and how he does.

Yeah with him performing as well as he has puts the Vikes in a tough spot in a way. Would love for him to stay another year, but he will likely get a better paycheck after this year from someone else. I don’t hate the idea of Dimes backing our starter up. Just hope like others he is not QB1
Good insurance policy for the rest of this season, then we’ll see what Jones is willing to sign for next season to be JJ’s backup. I would think he would be up for it as he has the best chance to get starting time if JJ somehow isn’t ready or gets hurt again and then he has the keys to a Ferrari to try and get his career back on track (ala Darnold)
I understand the move to add a viable backup and a guy with talent, but also question what it does for Darnold through the remainder of the year. The guy has led the team to a 9-2 start and has mostly exceeded expectations.
Suddenly the QB Room is growing AND they still have top 1st round pick who they traded multiple picks to move up for in 21 year old McCarthy presumably waiting for his chance in 2025.
The grass isn’t always greener. There’s a legitimate chance that there’s not a QB in this now large QB room who performs as well as Darnold has this year…for the Vikings moving forward post-Darnold. You don’t have to leave the state to see a similar scenario with the Timberwolves who just had their best season in my lifetime, yet opted to reshuffle the deck.
The Vikings are at 9-2 and seemingly writing off the QB who has helped get them there. Bold move.

Agree, but what is the other move? Sign him to a decent contract and pay him, with JJ sitting in the background? I would like the idea of keeping him, just not sure how it would lay out.

I’m not sure. They have themselves in an interesting situation for sure. They essentially can’t keep things status quo, even if they make the NFC Championship or SB…which is a strange feeling.
All I know is that IF I was a Viking fan and this team gets to the NFC title game or the SB – I’d have a very, very hard time telling Darnold “Thank You and Goodbye” and not signing him while turning it over to a relative group of unknowns in the QB room.

?? I only see it as injury insurance, how could Sam feel negatively about that? Jones has lost his way and needs his confidence completely rebuilt, that’s what KOC is good at…This move is just as much about next season as it is the rest of this one… Darnold will sign elsewhere next season for way more than the Vikings would be willing to pay him…
JJ is the future, Jones would be a great backup for him IF he’s willing to play that role next year and beyond…
Not sure what you are talking about but QB room is the same size.
It was Sam, Mullens, Rypien.
Now it will be Sam, Mullens, Jones.
Rypien will be put on waivers he is older than Daniel Jones and has zero chance of being a QB in this league.
If anything they just got a lot more experience in that room. Sam has zero to be concerned about at this point. Jones was just released by the worst team in the league and will be learning a new playbook 11 games into the season.
Darnold has also been dinged up here and there this season. They are bound for a playoff spot so at least you have insurance now if Sam goes down.
All they did was add depth at a position they started 4 different people last year for virtually nothing.
