    Nice buck – congrats!!

I pulled the plug. Time to go make soup.

Was out Saturday night and sunday Morning and night. Saturday Night and Morning were very cold. Missed a nice buck at around 160 yards wit my muzzle loader in some brush. Will be out the next couple weeks. A little tight with my sons basketball on the weekends. Saw quite a few deer wednesday.

Wow that’s a long shot with black powder.

Before I switched bullets, I had mine grouping at 250. I just didn’t like the performance of the bullet.

Dang that’s pretty good. I never pushed mine past 100. But I never tried either.

Yup, muzzleloaders, just like everything else have advanced with their capabilities. Mine is very accurate at 200 yards and I’m sure could get more distance out of it but haven’t tried.

I’ve killed a doe at 205 and the buck in my profile at 155. Both dropped in their tracks. All with a simple 245 grain Hornady HP and 100 grains of pellet powder. Most times guns are far more accurate than their handler.

Since glass is legal here in WI on smoke poles, I had to try

50cal Traditions 270gr platinum with 110gr 209. 300 meters (328 yrds) on the bench. No swab or cleaning between rounds. Cold clean bore to start, and let it rip. Shot 5 was off the paper.

Then let it cool down and cleaned thoroughly between shots. What a difference. But the small trees 3-4” think and the 2×4 behind the target were blown to hell. I have more doubt about the shooter than the mechanical performance at that range.

I think the big thing was I missed calculated how far it was I thought the shot was 125. Also the powder sounded different so do not know if it had gotten wet. Oh well will keep after it.

Punched the first MN tag with the bow last night. Love these temps, can let it hang until Friday when I can crack a few cold ones and knock it out.

Out in the corner stubble this afternoon. I’d be thrilled if a nice fat doe shows up, so I can concentrate on fishing the river this weekend.

Back in the same field tonight. I had a doe and two fawns finally come out about 250 yards away right at the end of shooting light. Almost immediately a little 6 came running across the field and ran them off.

I got the go ahead to hunt the rest of muzzy season on a farm I normally only get to shed hunt. For the first sit I’m up on a knob where I can see alot of ground. Behind me is probably 10 acres of stand beans and 6 acres of standing corn. I think I should have a entertaining sit. Good luck to everyone still getting out!

Shot at a doe, buddy and I didn’t find any blood in immediate area. Going back and looking tomorrow. About a 80 yard broadside shot, using window as rest. Seems like I should have hit it, hopefully find it.

Pretty sure I had a swing and a miss. Walked the woods and not a sign. Dang it!

Clean miss isn’t the end of the world. I’d rather miss completely than hit a leg or gut shot and never recover it.

A miss is better then a bad hit. I’m debating on going out for one more doe and turn her in to all sausage. The bow is calling my name now that I have a new sight

Had two does and a fawn out in the corn a few hundred yards away last night, and on the way back to the truck I saw a big bodied deer crossing some crp grass. I just got settled into said grass. I need that deer to do the same thing again tonight.

Got it done today with 2 minutes left on the second to last day of WI muzzleloader!!

I still had my WI gun tag to fill (we used Ben’s tag on my gun buck while family/party hunting opener)

Public Land, no cameras, no bait (even though it’s legal in Douglas County).

Just a little scouting, a little patience, some warm gear, and a ton of luck lol

75 yard shot, he crashed hard 50 yards later part way down a ravine. Not a big rack but one of the biggest bodied deer I’ve ever shot!

Mom dropped off helpers to get him out of the woods mrgreen
