Quite a bit of snow there too!

This was next to a slough that got got drifted in a little bit, so its rather deceiving. Most of the field just had a dusting and enough to make things somewhat white

Happy Thanksgiving YouBetcha! Hopefully some good action for you out there.
I’m at home this year as the family caught a very untimely bug. I’m hoping maybe I’ll be able to head out tomorrow. But today I don’t feel the strength to climb a stand. Nor the ability to stay warm.

Anyone braving the elements this morning? Muzzle loader season opened.

Last weekend of gun season over here. I whimped out at 5:30 this morning and went in my tower. With this wind, hoping they bed in the pines to keep warm. Been a brutal season here so far. Had a very nice buck pass beneath me on Sunday 35 minutes before shooting time. Only mature buck I’ve seen.

Getting quite boring watching snow freeze

We hunted the muzzleloader opener this morning….lasted until 9:30..-6 when we got out of the truck…couple does/fawns was all we saw…coldest sit I remember in recent years…

I’m sitting close to the house in wife’s cousins box stand this evening. It’s on the edge of an oak stand with picked corn to south and beans to west of me.

I drove down to the farm this afternoon with the intentions of breaking in the new muzzleloader, but I forgot the gloves and face mask at home. No way I’d last out in this cold without those things. I have one more week of vacation to burn this year, so I’m going to sneak in some weekday hunts over the next couple weeks. I have my fingers crossed we get a freak snow storm during muzzleloader to get the deer moving.

My two sons and I had our best sits of the year tonight…deer were seen by all and a couple good bucks at last light that didn’t present good shot opportunities…my youngest got his bonus tag punched too…damn cold today…

Congrates to your son Jackfish! I had a pretty good sit as well, deer were moving and moving pretty early. Saw three on each of the two neighbors property and three on the property I was on but unfortunately where they were in the field I could not see until I got down. Figuring there might be some out I did slow creep and got pretty close to them but it was well past last shooting.

Congrats to all successful hunters. I always like seeing the youngsters and newbies getting their game. Finally connected tonight myself. It was a cold hunt and I was wishing I was ice fishing instead of sitting on stand freezing my azz off waiting for a shooter. He was still chasing a couple does around and they came by at last light. Good luck to all still going out after them.

    Nice one eyeguy, congrates!

I’d say his tolerance for hunting in the extreme cold paid off handsomely.

Nice well earned dandy buck. Clearly made the correct decision to hunt instead of ice fish.

    Forsure Grim, well earned!

On a side note, a camera I set up over a scrape in late October is being reworked by a couple bucks in the last couple days. Second/late rut going on.

Unbred does will go back into heat about a month after they initially did. There’s been a lot of buck activity where I’m going to muzzy hunt with a couple of guys. They each still need a buck so in a party I can help out. Planning to do some evening sits, with still hunting/minor drives earlier in the morning hours. Should be interesting.

Wasn’t able to get to Wisconsin for gun opener. Had Tuesday/Wednesday off, Tuesday was a bust, Wednesday had truck issues. Woke up with a couple hours of free time on Thanksgiving, got into stand, and a textbook hunt after that. First tag punched for the season.

Have a Crow Wing State Park hunt this coming weekend, hope to punch a couple MN tags before the timer runs out.

That looks like a textbook hit too. Congrats on a fine buck. Good luck in the park! That guy would make a great Euro mount.
