As Captain said, did not find the arrow which obviously can tell a lot. He did find a little white hair at shot site. It appeared bleeding both sides, which indicates pass through but thinking is possible brisket shot, slice it open which would make it look like it’s a pass through. It did sound like they kicked it up once and found blood where it was bedded. The bottom mark on picture is property he was hunting. The top picture is last known drop of blood, which was about the size of sharpie point. The tracking dog picked up trail across the road from that mark but that didn’t have permission yet to access but did gain it. Six of us went into outlined property looking and the island on top of picture. Did not find any blood once it crosses the road. If it kept going to the North and hit the open fields who knows where it went from there with no blood to follow. Would have been interesting if they could have kept going with the dog. I do know I wish I could hunt the property we were pushing sign everywhere! He did all he could, it sucks but as you all said, tough SOBs!

Dang that’s a bummer for sure. I actually grew up just a few miles west of there, some very nice properties right around that area! Hopefully it was not fatal and your buddy gets another cracked at him. I’ll be in a tree all day tomorrow so I’ll be sure to report back.

That’s a heckuva trail, and I’d bet it lived. I used to hunt a neighboring property right there and they usually bee line for the creek which is also some real thick stuff downhill. He went the opposite direction for a mile+. Sucks but it happens.

Some here know Kyle Steinfelt. He’s a friend to me as well. He poked a hole in this thing on Halloween evening.

Wow that’s a beast of a buck. Maybe one day I’ll have a encounter like that.

Kyle lives in Iowa and hunts hard for serious animals. As I understand it he’s had eyes on this one for a couple years. He seems to have the patience of a saint. I’m not sure I could function if a deer of that class walked in to my stand area.

Here he is with his kitty from earlier this year…. He having a full body mount done on this cat. He should do a full body on that deer.

Jesus, full body mount of a lion? That has to be close to 10 grand.

What a stud Jimmy! Hopefully something like that walks by this afternoon when I’m in the tree!

Those deer are out there gimuis even on public. I chased one around in MN for a couple years, and had him as close as 60 yards from the tree. I moved my stand midday to cover a different trail, and of course he walked within 20 yards of the first tree. That deer got shot a few days later on gun opener, and scored right around 190. The other one was deep in a swamp in SE WI. That one was probably 150 yards out, heading in my general direction, when some hounds started baying in the distance. That buck immediately spun around and headed off into the swamp never to be seen again.

I tend to agree, although that specific buck was taken in Iowa.

I’ve never seen anything remotely close to that size and it’s my 30th season in 6 days. But I only hunt during gun season too so my window of opportunity is more limited than archery hunters.

Jealousy is running high. Rain here let up about 530am. grabbed some coffee and went down to my office. As day break came, very nice 10 in the yard with a doe. she was grazing and he was not letting her out of his site.

I’m pretty certain Kyle’s deer was taken in an area that’s maintained for quality deer. Not a penned hunt, he’d never do that, but an area where just about all neighbors have plots and self imposed limits to what they can/will take. I know he’s had eyes on this particular deer for a couple years or more. And I am guessing it came from the southern half of the state where his family has property even though he’s from the center of the state.

I called the step son yesterday afternoon and he had a ten chasing a mess of does in his yard….Country Club Manor. Rochester’s west side and well inside the city limits. Its a heavily populated area.

Just got off from my long ass shift and headed to wi back waters. Hoping the deer will be moving after this rain storm. Sacrifice of sleep hopefully will pay off

I’m finally sitting the road side stand this year. I walked past a couple scrapes on the way in, and it looked like they’d both been hit since the rain quit.

I just did a sequence of 3 big rattles, heard some rumbling behind me. It was a mama and twins come run in to check it out. They are now bedded 50 yards up wind. Haven’t had my rattles call in the ladies like that. It was pretty ffunny. But now I’m on high alert not to let mama see me move.

Was a fun sit until a dog came out.
I was hunting river bottoms in wi and got out around 11ish.
I made alot of noise tonight with the rattles and had multiple deer show up. At first I had a mama and twins come right in after making some clashes, they ended up bedding down for a hour 35 yards from me. Then get up and slowly trot off. So I started clashing again and immediately a 6 point showed up with a actual decent spread. Then shortly after a spike came through.
I had a red fox around me almost the entire time hoping in and out.
But then at about 3 a damn dog showed up running all over the woods. It went away after about 30 minutes and a couple more doe showed up. Come 4pm that dog showed back up chasing the deer off and barking and running. I hiked out at 445 kinda mad. Was a great gloomy evening with lots of movement, hoping the wisco buck was going to show it’s self.
Other then that I caught a big fat garter snake and it had a frog leg hanging out it’s mouth. That was neat. I love river bottoms.

I had a close call tonight. I grunted in a 130’s 10 point at 2:30. It stopped broad side at 38 yards. I ended up sending an arrow over his back, and into the tree behind him. I’d guess it was a combo of not aiming low enough for a steep down hill shot, and maybe the deer dropped a bit as well. I got back in the stand after checking the arrow, and immediately rattled in a small busted up 8. Then maybe an hour before dark I rattled in a 6 point from across the road. The deer were definitely fired up tonight. Hopefully this continues for the rest of the week!

I scouted the morning and found a good spot to sit Wednesday. Also found a dead 10 point. Someone must have gut shot it and could not find it. Coyotes did though. Afternoon sit I saw two does. One fed around me in the swamp for 20 minutes. She caught my ground trail in and bird dogged me ending up right below me. I kept as still as possible and she bounded 20 yards away. Meeting up with the other doe and walking away. I don’t think she ever fully got me. I scouted like 4 hours and I did not run into much sign. Cams are picking up some new bucks though.

I’m on dad duty tonight so no hunting for me. But I’m hoping to bail here at 9am after normandale college says I can’t make any more noise. Go sit from 1030 to 3. (depending on rain)
Justin at least you were able to salvage the rack on that guy. Crazy how fast he was eaten

Never have I seen so many coyotes around. Hoping to take some out as soon as there’s snow on the ground.

They are definitely a problem where I am hunting. I shot doe last year and recovered her 2 hours later. They already were on her when I got to her. Thankfully they only got some hide.
