Anyone out today? Thoughts on hunting in a blizzard…?

All of my deer hunting experience is during firearms season so take it with a grain of salt. This will be my 30th season.

I generally think hunting before (last night) or after (tomorrow) is a better plan that right during it.

That being said, I have sat out there in this kind of weather (heavy wet snow) as recently as 2020 and I did not see anything for hours. As soon as it stopped during the night, the deer were on the move again. The next day was very good hunting too. Tracks all over.

I also sit in an elevated, open stand that offers no protection from the elements. My tolerance only lasts so long. That problem could be alleviated with an enclosed stand or a ground blind.

I love this weather and you just need to be in stand when it stops. As long as you can deal with the weather when that break happens can be some of the best hunting.

I’m with you on that. Tonight would be a great night to sit. Damn kids have to trick or treat though. And I have to drive the hay ride. Boo hoo.

I have the kids tonight too, but then 7 days off for rut. I am like a kids on Christmas eve right now.

I just got back from checking a couple cameras, and there were a few hunters out braving the weather. I skipped tonight to get some work done, but my week off starts at noon tomorrow. Good luck to all the other bow hunters who will be hitting the woods hard for the next week. I think it should be good.

Let a basket 8 walk this morning, just a little guy not close to outside its ears. But that was it, a lot quieter than I expected.

Not sure what everyone else is seeing but yesterday saw a lot of chasing and the target buck seemed to be on lockdown with some does already

I’ve seen two small bucks and 4 does this morning, no chasing/searching going on yet. Both bucks were just casually walking and stopped to check a scrape.

Sitting all day in my favorite funnel, hoping for some midday cruising!

Seen just one small buck. It looked like he was heading into bed. Nothing else since.

Had to get stuff out of my truck this morning, around 230-245 am. two bucks sparing in the yard. They didn’t like it when I shut the truck door. Had a couple does walk around the apple trees in the yard at day break. Haven’t seen anything but squirrels in the yard since. My guess is they got super active as soon as that wind laid down and took a break. Wishing I could sit all mid day today

Just saw two bigger bucks, one was outside his ears.

There was a doe feeding and the smaller one went up to smell her, she took off and neither of them even took a step her way??

The bigger buck worked a scrape and they both meandered off in different directions.

With the cold front I was hoping it was going to be a zoo today, but have only seen pre-rut activity so far

Both the smaller bucks I grunted in the last couple days, but they were pretty slow coming in. Think it will be picking up by the hour and day though.

Just saw a decent buck head into the swamp, grunted at him but I don’t think he heard me. First deer I’ve seen since 10:45 (which was one of the same small bucks I saw earlier in the am)

    JUST SHOT A NICE BUCK!!!!!!

I think it was the bigger one I saw earlier. I saw him 75 yards away on his feet in some thick stuff and gave him a grunt. He turned and came right through the funnel, stopped at 20 yards and made a scrape with brush in my way. I was at full draw for a minute and had to let down doah

Then he turned and got back on the deer trail, I drew back again and gave him a “meah” at 15 yards broadside!

    Saw him go down!

    Nice buck!

I’m out for the first sit of vacation. I ran into a friend at the gas station on the way down, and he had a nice 10 he got this morning in the back of his truck.

Congrates B-man and good luck hillhiker. Wish I could have made it out yesterday and today. Had a buck working a scrape I was hunting over Wednesday at 1030 this morning and another nice one yesterday evening before dark. Thats why cell cameras suck sometimes!

I’ve had a buck on camera in front of the kids stand 3 times today. Sadly the lady works late so I won’t be able to get him out. But we will be out early am. Good luck guys.
And good job Brandon nice buck you stuck there.
