Nice chilly and frosty morning out. Had a low of 26° on the truck during the drive. 5-6 deer walked past me in the dark but non since. I should get some night vision Google so I can atleast see what deer they are.
I’ve now got a mega flock of blackbirds about 150 yards away that are so loud I can’t even hear the squirrels that are below me. crazy

On the pond tonight. The deer are starting to really hit the water hard.

It was slow last night with only a couple does feeding in the far end of the field. This morning I’m sitting on the edge of a draw leading to bedding and a pond. I had two deer go by about 5 mins before shooting light, and one I could clearly make out a decent set of antlers on. Since then a called in a fork and 6 point that we’re crossing the picked beans.

I wasn’t planning to call at all but figured I’d mess with little ones. A couple quick grunts and they came in on a string.

Had 5-6 go by just out of range last night, and then something bigger this morning 20 minutes before shooting. Stood 25 yards away right in one of my shooting ones for a bit before moving on, it was too dark to tell what it was, but I’d guess a good doe or small buck.

This guy made a new scrape the past 2 days right in front of my camera. He is there just after and before shooting light every day.

We are putting together a plan so Mason can stick him with a arrow. Trick is to get this deer to mess up and step out 10 minutes earlier in the evening. We won’t get a morning opportunity till next weekend. This pic was a couple nights ago with no scrape and the other 2 shows he made a scrape.
What are the odds he did it right in front of the camera.

Doing a little ground hunting with two daughters. Just had a couple turkeys come by at 20 yards. They didn’t notice us so I think we have a chance of a deer comes out lol.

The kid and I are sitting side by side in trees, there’s 3 scrapes within 20 yards that were not here Friday evening. The woods are loud walking in. And squirrels sound like grizzly bears

Hunted Friday evening and Saturday morning over in SD.
With the high pressure the deer were defiantly moving.
Had a 9 pointer work into 35 yards. How this deer did not see my buck decoy I will never know. Not sure if I would have shot him or not. Never did have a window I could get an arrow through. He ended up slipping down wind and the game was up.

Set up wasn’t nothing special. 1/4 of CRP with a couple trees lines in it and on the back side there was a creek. On the SW corner there was 20 trees in a low area that was 6’ lower than the rest of the area.

There was a Y in the deer trails just north of the tree and the trail went off to the west from there. The buck came in on the east side of the tree not on any trail and I had the decoy on the west side of the tree just south of the trail going to the west.

My rut cation starts Friday. Will be starting in Nebraska and move onto SD if I fill my Nebraska tag. I have 2 weeks to enjoy the whitetail rut.

    Good luck everyone.

I had my afternoon open up, so I had to get out for a bit with the cold front moving in. Grunted in a spike to 20 yards but let him walk.

I took off of work and today, set up a ground blind at farm for opener. Put on 2.5 miles looking for fresh rubs/scraps. Found a line of fresh ones leading from swamp going into patch of oaks. Sitting over it now.

    Thank you.
    Good luck on the scrapes.

This summer I was watching 2 good bucks come out of a small wood lot with a slough in it.
Well tonight I hung a 2 person ladder stand in the tree I thought would be the killing tree for a coworker to try and get her first deer.
When I drove up to it I kicked up one of the bucks.
Hopefully she gets one of them opening weekend.

I haven’t been able to sit all week, but I did get to do a little mid day scout yesterday. I found a sweet rub line on some bigger trees, went right from un picked corn through a small swamp in to a 15 acre woods patch which has a big untouched swamp behind it. Along the way I found a ground scrape about the size of my truck hood. So that’ll be my Friday evening spot I’m hoping. I was able to get a permission access point in wi so I can get to hard to get to public land off a farmers field edge.

    Is she going solo?
And good luck on your couple weeks off. I’m jealous. Kill a good one.
