DNR says new info to be released tomorrow. Are you sure you didn’t look at 2023? I can’t believe they’d release it early.

If you click on permit areas on the interactive map it say 2024. For example permit area 246 is lottery and has a reduced antlerless permit allocation of 1000 in 2024 vs 2000 in 2023.

not sure if that is accurate across the state but that was 1 area that is different.

Sometimes I think the DNR just changes some things to just justify their jobs. I not always sure there is good science behind some of those decisions.

Someday it will be a two deer unit. Put a ton of time into that unit a few years ago and have a handful of very solid doe spots.

I grew up in linwood in the heart of Carlos Avery. Have seen more then enough quality bucks that I always keep spots in my back pocket. Lots of areas get extreme pressure, but they also leave so many good spots alone. It’s a place I don’t park in the same area twice, otherwise people start snooping the area.

I have learned if you are brave enough to have wet feet you can find some good bucks

Have land in 178. Last yr they gave out 150 doe tags. After zero winter, thought it’d go up or at least stay the same. Nope, it dropped to 25. We don’t apply for doe tags and have pretty much given up on deer hunting the area. If the numbers are that bad, make it a bucks only area.

Assuming the wet weather took a toll on the fawns?

How does it go from 150, have zero winter and drop to 25?

Hunter numbers in the area have fallen off a cliff.

hunter numbers in our areas, 169 and 197 have also gone way down.

    169 is bucks only…..197 has 200 permits!

i agree basseyes……dont make any sense. about the only thing that may make sense is with the winter we had more fawns were born……there letting the population rebound a year in hopes of more fawns and deer next year. doah doah coffee

Basseyes, I also have land in 178. North of Meadowlands. Sure doesn’t make sense to drop the doe tags so much. Looks like another slow hunting season up there again.

I noticed on page 9 they are now allowing a digital image of a hunting license to show an LEO as proof instead of actually carrying the paper copy. The one exception is if you are hunting game that requires a site tag like deer, bear, or wild turkey.

Honestly I’m ok with the minimal changes to doe tags. We need more than one good winter to help increase the deer numbers in any meaningful way. If they upped the doe tags substantially after only one good winter we would be right back to where we were this time last year.

    Yes

I assume this is going to carry into the 2025 Fishing Regs too being that the only requirement for a site tag in that realm is with a sturgeon.

When I got stopped on Winnie the weekend after opener I had left my license in the truck but had the digital copy on my phone. Officer said it was good enough for him because it sounds like that’s the way it’s going next year anyway.

Often I dont carry my phone hunting or fishing but I always carry my wallet so I will stick with paper with phone being a backup.

Zone 214 we are up to 3 deer from 2. From scouting and the looks of our corn there are going to be lots of opportunity for Harvest. Last year it seemed deer numbers were a bit down from previous years but still plenty of deer. We hunt near The wadena/Bertha area.

    Anyone else hunt that area?

I own an 80 and do most of my hunting in 214 as well. If I am not mistaken, we have been 3 or 5 deer for as long as I can remember. Not that it mattered last year. We had very few sightings of deer during Bow and rifle seasons, although last summer it seemed there were good numbers of deer. I hope they just hid well and will be in good numbers this Fall.
Trail cams have regular activity, and more pictures as we get closer to season which is good. We have another pretty good red and pin oak crop of acorns again this year, so we will see how that shakes things up.
