Good luck with the hangover boys. Great game. Bummer to lose it in OT so close.
No excuses, its friggin Canada….but I can’t wait for the Olympics to see this USA team hopefully healthy with Quinn Hughes… he’s a difference maker…
Binnington was the player of that game, period. What a joke. Mcdavid even admitted he wasn’t good that whole game.

Hey someone else that actually watched the game. Kudos welcome to the hockey thread.
What. A. Game! Might’ve been the best hockey game I’ve ever watched in my lifetime. I wish they’d do this every year. Head case Binnington came to play and won that for them. His play was unreal in the third & OT.. I predicted a 3-2 OT game, just had the wrong winner..
The pace, The physicality, The Talent where un-matchable to anything the NHL has ever put together. Great Tourney! Now lets go shut Larkin & the Red Wings down with that Matinee game tomorrow!
Told you
Told me what?
Sorry that’s something my kids would say to me when I’d get disappointed about something.
I agree that was a very entertaining game. I was thinking through the whole thing that the longer it was close and binner kept making saves that he would steal it. He did just that. I’d have to watch back the game winner but I think Conner played a good game he made lots of big saves early as it could have gotten out of hand early.
I don’t think there was anything Hellebuyck could’ve done on that last goal. It was so fast! He barely got set, McDavid was left alone & Sniped it right into the corner pocket from the kitchen.

Probably not, I wasnt really paying attention to the tv when it happened and I turned the TV off immediately so I didnt see a replay which is why I wanted to watch it back. He played great all tourney. Hopefully that quiets some of the naysayers about him, except if the wild play him of course.
Nothing to hang your head about here. You got beat in 5 on 5 OT by arguably the best hockey player in the world.
Yeah it’s just cool that USA/Canada hockey games have essentially turned into coinflips… two completely even matched teams.
I’m admittedly a McDavid fanboi (who isn’t?!) so silver lining that he got his legacy golden goal, hopefully it’s his last one. Binnington being the story though still makes me want to puke this morning.
USA had their chances to win it in OT and didn’t… Austin Mathews unable to score the big meaningful goal, sound familiar
Leaving the best player in the world at the top of the slot with the puck and nobody around him probably isn’t a good recipe for success.
All that being said, what a successful tournament by Bettman and the NHL, he deserves his flowers so give it to him… The Olympics next year will be awesome as well and we’ll likely see a USA vs Canada gold metal rematch, hopefully with full healthy squads…Hopefully the every 2 year World Cup doesn’t get watered down too much, but I have my suspicions the NHL will figure out how to screw it up…
Now back to the final 26 games of the regular season for the Wild, will they get anybody at the trade deadline? will Kirill come back full strength and pick up where he left off, will Boldy and Rossi have strong finishes to their seasons, will Buium play meaningful minutes when he signs and have an immediate impact, etc, etc…
If anything, it should be an entertaining finish!

You are not alone there!
Anyone else annoyed with the redo of the “Miracle” pregame speech? At first I kind of liked it, but then after what the 5th time they showed it I was like this is dumb. If you were watching it, Faber was trying not to laugh when the camera cut to him. That was definitely Buccigross’ doing.
Big controversy I read this morning was how the gal changed a line in O’ Canada and both Canadians and Americans are ticked about it. Moreso Canadians. I admit, I didnt even notice it.

Yep, agreed. Just watched that replay and holy hell it would have had to be a miraculous save to get that. No one was near him. Not sure if its true but someone said that was about the only time McDavid was on the ice and Faber/Slavin were not.

I only noticed going into overtime and was pretty jacked up after that.

You only saw it once? Man, I know it was played at least 4 times. Before the game, between periods and over time. The first time I saw it I agree with you, but by the 3rd and 4th I was like OK lets move on. Probably would have felt better about it if we were blowing them out I guess.
Ha, someone else didnt like some of the roster choices. I know we talked about Tage for sure earlier. Conner too, probably.

Brock Faber had 28:50 time on ice last night, led BOTH teams…he’s 22 years old, unreal…

I, too, only saw it before the OT and it got me going! Didn’t watch the pregame.
I’m just gonna say this, the Hughes family is bad for USA hockey. Quinn could have played and didnt (trust me he was fine), Luke is an overhyped player and single handedly gave away the World Jr Gold due to his selfish play ( I wont ever forget his terrible play in Word Jr). And last night Jack, was Dog SH*t and was all tourney. He was a coward, he shied away from any contact more than a protestant in a whorehouse. Literally fell more than he made a play and he fell every time he was within 5′ of a Canadian player. D one coverage in OT, he glanced at 97 and covered the point. Matthews and the d were a bit to blame as well, your better off to have 2-3 guys on 97 and let the other perimeter players be open, but he jumped to the point coverage. Just sh#tty cowardly play all tourney by him. Jack was the forward version of Jarod Spurgeon. Great in regular season, but not so much in the playoffs. I agree Connor should have been in there, and no Kreider is not replacing Tkachuck any time soon. Slavin was unreal and Faber is a potential face of the league. deservedly so because he is as good a person as he is a player. It was great to see the national media finally recognize it. Dont think Team USA shouldn’t ne a bit frustrated that M TKachuck said he was good to go by the way. They needed his morale boost but if you are that injured, and they could have had another healthy forward suited up, would that have made a difference? not much good comes from jumbled lines an entire game. so it was a bit selfish by him to say he was good to go. OK thats it, GO WILD we came away healthy!

It’s fitting that i’m quoting you for this post: “This is the dumbest thing anyone has ever said in these threads”
I love the personal 180 on Mathew Tkachuk being the greatest team mate in the history of hockey to him being selfish in a span of 5 days…

Do you just read what you want to read? Whatever fits your agenda? I insinuated the decision to play was selfish. It would have been impossible to keep him out as a coach but he could have been more honest with himself for the good of the team. I did NOT say a player in Krieder, that is obviously not even close to the same level of player, was interchangeable. I did not say if Kreider played for Tkachuck it would “Not be a big loss”.
So Yeah, double down on the dumbest thing ever said on here.
When the Canadians pulled even 2-2, I told my son that Canada would win this one in OT. Again. The USA was just not generating anything other than brief rushes and then right back the other way, it was like watching tennis.
Not much more to say about Binnington, just when the Canadians needed it, he came through. What can you say, I don’t think anyone is under the illusion that you’d want Binnington to be the guy to win you a 7 game series of this type of game, but that wasn’t what this was.
Anyone else annoyed with the redo of the “Miracle” pregame speech?
Yes, I thought it was completely lame and as someone who watched the Miracle game live, I will tell you that even as a 10-year-old, that game had VASTLY more meaning and symbolism than this game. The idea of recycling one of the great moments in sports and trying to shoehorn it into a modern-day context that it doesn’t fit, was just wrong.
It’s not like it was the real Herb Brooks… it’s just a Disney movie mashup with the current players. I too only saw it the one time going into OT and it got me fired up, but can totally see how it would get old real quick if they were playing it over and over.
Not ready to say the Hughes boys are bad for USA and I’m not gonna pretend to have any clue what’s going on with Quinn, but Jack was for sure dogshit in this tourney. Also remember Luke giving absolutely zero care to playing defense in that WJC, but he was a kid, and baby of the golden family. Not much playoff experience for the Hughes boys yet but I thought Jack was good when the Devils were in a couple years ago and I remember Quinn roasting the Wild in the Covid bubble “playoffs”.
Brock Faber had 28:50 time on ice last night, led BOTH teams…he’s 22 years old, unreal…
Jacob Slavin was an absolute beast! Him and Faber were on the ice so much kept asking our 4th kid how much ice time him and Faber had in the 3rd cause they seemed like they were rarely off the ice.
Was skeptical of this 4 nations deal but was enjoyable to watch.
Thought Ek, Gus and Brodin were good for Sweden.
Faber was good but seemed a little nervous a few times. Still had an overall good showing. Late in the game multiple times within a short period of time played great defense on McDavid. Really liked what Boldy brought and was pretty impressed with his play overall.
Still think it’s an absolute joke player of the game went to McDavid after he said on national TV he didn’t play well. If I was McDavid I’d of handed that trophy to Binnington after he stood on his head to keep them in that game.
Hellebuyck played well enough to win and not much more he could’ve done.
Hell of a game and could’ve gone either way.
The puck watching on the gwg leaving 97 alone in the slot and seeing Fox on the USA sweater was no surprise from the one camera angle.
It’s not like it was the real Herb Brooks… it’s just a Disney movie mashup with the current players.
Lol. Yes, I’m pretty sure most of us knew that it was not the real Herb Brooks. My inside sources tell me that despite Disney’s dogged pursuit, he was unavailable to do a live appearance due to the fact that he is presently deceased.
So the Disney movie was one of the great moments in sports? Because that’s what got recycled. Had they played the Al Michaels “Do you believe in Miracles” then ok yeah that’s over the top, but what they played is literally just a movie
I thought it was funny how the players didn’t give one bit of care about the after game ceremony. Trophy, medals, player of the game, MVP…. zero care about any of it, they all looked like they were being held hostage staying on the ice for it. All they wanted was to beat the other country, perfect example of playing for pride and love of the game
