Well, starting in 2028 every 2 years there will either be an Olympics or a World Cup of Hockey…

They’re going to bulldoze the competition duh!
February 13, 2025 at 8:38 pm #2317430It’s been a good tournament so far with lots of energy, more than I expected. Time will tell if it sticks. As mentioned, there’s gonna be a lot of country vs country play coming up with the world cups and Olympics so will this format just become “another”? Will the players take it seriously every year? What does it get them other than bragging rights right now? Make em play for something like the MLB used to be home field advantage or something – not sure what.
I’ll say it again, it needs Russia and the rest of the Europeans.
Stands are not as full tonight. Should have played this game in Boston. Next year they can do it in Sweden and Finland to even it out… although views would tank.
February 13, 2025 at 8:53 pm #2317433This is the first game I can think of where Brock Faber looks frazzled on the ice…
February 13, 2025 at 8:56 pm #2317435Faber shot deflected in by Boldy. Swedish and American Wild players with a good showing so far this tourney.

Great play by all the Wild players so far.
February 13, 2025 at 9:39 pm #2317449The Tkachuk boys are a force tonight, gotta key them together with Eichel the rest of the tournament!
February 14, 2025 at 5:17 am #2317461I’ll admit I was skeptical of this Tournament. But it has been nothing less than spectacular!! Both games so far have been exciting and kept me drawn in watching. I dislike the Tkachuk brothers about as much as most people, but Dayum!! Those boys are fun to have on your team! All four Wild skaters have points in their first game(s) is pretty cool too. I’m pretty excited about tomorrows matchup and should be a great game as well. U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!

for sure, the only issue I see with Brady is that he only has 2 years left on his deal and then he’s cashing in bigtime as a 27 year old when the cap is over $100 million…
How about Rantanen last night, he was hardly noticeable…that’s why I think he’ll re-sign with the Avs this offseason, he needs MacKinnon…

Both games so far have been exciting and kept me drawn in watchingI’m not skeptical of the tournament, I’m wary of its season-wrecking potential should there be an injury. We don’t have any JoJos, Hartmans, Merrills etc out there, every player in this thing is a key player for the Wild if we’re going to make it beyond R1.
So far so good, only one stick to the face of Ek and we’re 2 games in. Hope our luck holds.
Things are going to get a little heated in USA vs Canada. The Canadians need to win in regulation and the desperately need to avoid a regulation loss.

No team in the league has those types of players in the tournament.
February 14, 2025 at 12:54 pm #2317615and of course its Vegas who actually does get a player hurt in the tourney…
February 14, 2025 at 1:06 pm #2317619so pretty much every NHL Trade Deadline story (TSN and other reputable places) has the Wild somehow getting Brock Nelson…
My question is for those who want this trade, what are you willing to give up for him if you’re GMBG?

Shockingly, I don’t care about every other team in the league. I want a playoff run without having to wait for BG’s next 10 year planning cycle or whatever.

Well since GMBG doesn’t make bad trades I guess it’s up to him. Knowing he is likely signing here in the off season maybe he can use that as leverage.

except that means absolutely nothing to the Islanders…

Most likely yes as others teams will be making a move on him as well as a pure rental.
February 14, 2025 at 3:13 pm #2317654These games have been fantastic! While youth hockey earns a lot of criticism, it sure seems to put out the most humble patriotic pro’s of any sport. Also, was anyone else having flashbacks of Granlund with the puck on his stick sitting behind the net doing nothing, or was that just me?

Granlund is actually having a good season, He’s at 49 points and 15 goals and 5 of them came on the PP. Granted he now has to contend with a new system in Dallas and he won’t be on the #1 unit, but he could end up being a 20+ goal guy this year.
I believe he’s a UFA at the end of this season.
February 15, 2025 at 8:20 am #2317737Other than the Olympics having their own timing to abide by, why wouldn’t the NHL/NHLPA want to have future World Cups in September BEFORE the season starts or if its a games played issue, have it at the start of the season?
February 15, 2025 at 5:19 pm #2317834Granlund with the OT winner for the Finns against the Swedes. Fina played a terrific game to win that one.
USA vs Canada tonight.
